Rear brake light switch

Is there any means to adjust the brake light switch on series2 Jota? I have no idea how it actually works. The front switch engages the light right after I pull the lever, but the rear switch requires much more pedal movement before the light turns on so it's practically useless. The bike would probably stop before rear brake light engages. Any ideas?

Hi Cape there is no adjustment the switch works off the hydraulic pressure in the system, if you remove the switch you can simulate the pressure by pushing a small pin into the hole in the centre of the switch and placing a multi meter across the two terminals and measuring the resistance, sometimes it may be a faulty or rusty spade terminal at one of those connections.

Cape, the hydraulic switches are known to require more pressure to activate as they get older. After 30+ years, yeah, time to get another one. There are some aftermarket ones around cheaper than Brembo, or you can rig a mechanical switch. Effective, cheap and easy to do, unfortunately usually looks like crap.

Brembo OEM brake switch, new, old stock, from ebay, 30usd.

Alternatively take your old one to a VW dealership and ask them to match it (with a new one obviously) !..

G'day Cape,

Been down the same path, unfortunately the only remedy is 'repair by replacement'.
Got mine from my local friendly Ducati robber dealer.
If they looked like the ones above, wouldn't touch with a barge-pole.

All the switches pictured and listed are front switches, Cape is after a rear.
May be worth having a go at cleaning your old switch out first and carefully re-bleeding the rear brake.

Well spotted, Keith. I need a banjo bolt with light switch. Should be easy to find in local parts dealer...

I "repair" the switches by chucking them in the box for zinc plating.  At least a 80% success, most work fine after the internal crap has been washed out by the platers' cleaners, are nice and shiney afterwards too, better than new actually!  Worth a try, costs next to nothing and you can always toss it in the bin if it doesn't work... or sell it on Fleabay as a NOS item and make a fortune! >:( :o.

Do not buy those Volkswagen brake light switches for your Laverda as they have a conical M10x1 thread and do not fit on Brembo M/C.

Stefan
What is the right thread for Brembo? The ones I have spotted have either 10x1 or 10x1,25 thread.

Problem sorted, I got an original spare part from local Moto Guzzi enthusiast. Exactly the same part and for free. True biker spirit!
