Rear m/c reservoir removal - how?

As per the title. Something I've never done and before I get violent....!

Hi Rob, Inside isn't there a couple of allen screws to undo first, my memory!
Remove screws if there and then the plastic bowel will unscrew anti-clockwise.

PS I've always used expandable grips to grip plastic to undo.

Never tried it on this item Rob but I have a rubber strap wrench that has proved very handy in similar scenarios if it’s stuck a bit after Andy’s guidance.

The reservoir actually screws into the M/C body. There is a gap/slot in the cap thread for a "C" spanner.

Only the front PS reservoirs are fixed by 2 M5 Allen screws.

I don't use any tool, just my hands to unscrew the reservoir. This rear master also just had a stainless steel sleeve installed as the bore was pitted.

Heat the whole thing in hot water to soften it all up. often works wonders on tight plastic threads.

Use a butane gas torch. You'll have to clean the soot out of the alloy part afterwards, but the plastic reservoir will be gone.

Gone is correct as you can't buy the plastic resovior. So now your rear master cylinder is scrap!

drop it in boiling water, and get it hot, then (using gloves) FIT THE CAP and unscrew using a strap wrench, if it looks like crushing you stop, but you knew the last bit anyway.

Thanks chaps - hot water and a strap wrench did the trick. Good idea from Clem to refit the cap to avoid distorting the softened plastic reservoir.
