Reds last engine rebuild.

Chris and Jo,
Being the new kid on the block when it comes to lightened cranks I am a bit reluctant to post anything.
There are a few on here who have done countless k's already on skinny cranks and it was their advice I took when going down this path.

However, from what k's Ive done so far....

Simply
Beautiful! (cant put enough exclamation marks)

Like it was meant to be.

Now I just have to watch my licence

I assume it spins up quite a bit quicker but have you noticed a decrease in engine braking? The reason I ask is because a common performance mod for the big block Guzzi's, of which I had many, was to lighten the flywheel, they are ridiculously heavy for sport performance use. However, the trade-off was/is a loss of engine braking. The first one I did I overshot a corner and ran wide into to oncoming lane. Once I swallowed my heart I found the brake lever much sooner.

Thank you Tom!
In hindsight I also realized that one should wrap a cloak of silence about modifications and attributes. At least here in Germany the law sometimes reads along too.

As recently a couple of young blokes, who had attracted negative attention with their wild driving maneuvers, were sentenced because they'd posted videos of them.

My experience of lightened cranks on 750s is that you find yourself crying out for a close ratio gearbox.

Maybe triples are better in that respect?

Hi Jo,

I assume they only make research when they found something already. Not sure they have enough resources to really monitor each and every forum... My experience is, that they have way to less staff to fulfill their normal obligations, wonder where they would find the time to scan forums... Especially Laverda-Forums, where the chance that they ever see the guy posting something is very minimal...

But who knows, right? Better be save than sorry is allways a good strategy ;-)

Those maniac riding/driving videos often get reported in, and otherwise lots of people, cop or other, can see them. Kids a months experience on their first ever licence posting 220kmh in dad's Audi are just asking for it. I very much doubt that the authorities anywhere trowel the web for info on people modifying their bikes or cars, have barely enough time to do the important stuff.
Paul, every single person who has ever ridden mine or Quentin's SF with the SFC crank has said that they want one of those cranks.

This is not entirely true - see #10 ...
You can try out my 3C this season Jo. Minus 3kg, it has the added bonus of a CR gearbox, too.

11 out of 10 on the fun scale...

The 750s really come to life with 2kg less burden on the cranks.

That's what I call an offer, thanks Piet! Well, and 11 out of 10 points sounds veeeery convincing!
:D

Cheers,
Jo

Phil Todd's 750 cranks had 5 kg off compared to a late SF crank.
If I remember correctly. They'd spin up nicely and show up massive holes between gear ratios.

The only hole in an SF gearbox is 2nd to 3rd. Bloody pain in the neck, but I was told that the SFC box had tall 1st and 2nd without that gap and I don't want taller 1st. My mate was racing his SF for years and never noticed it until I told him, then it drove him nuts too 😂

I can't remember the gaps in the standard gearbox. I only use 5th.
First on the SFC is either 50% or 52% on the CC, cambio corse gearbox. Marnix will no doubt correct me, he always does.
That gearbox combined with the light and precise shifting that the lighter selection mechanism gives is heaven.

My modern 250 Husky had a close-ratio 6-speed box, fantastic for the race bike it is, a complete pain in the arse for everyday riding. Like geared to run at 100kph in 6th gear revving at 12500rpm. The only fix would have been changing the final drive ratio with either a bigger front or smaller rear but that made 1st way too tall for the technical stuff. It desperately needed an overdrive 6th and it was looked at but would have cost a bomb. It just wasn't a trail bike.
