hey gang
dicking with the carbs and the worn hot wire on the regulator found a way to contact the body of the regulator - lots of smoke and anger -fck
replaced  the melted ground wire on the bosch unit, put a good end on hot wire, see no other melted wire etc, but no charge so thinking the regulator must of fried - also thinking i'll try one of the Sachse units - any one know if the Sachse Regulator REG4 unit is correct one - says for Bosch unit but also says for bosch alternators....

thanks as always!
mike

Mike assume you have checked the alternator output and wiring before condenming the regulator though by the sounds of your melted wiring you most likely have fried it.

Got no idea on the Sachse units but if anything like the ignition units then the quality would be right up there...
I have been using these cheap Chinese units and so far no worries even installed a digital volt meter into the RGS dash so can monitor it. Max charge seems to hold at 14.7 to 14.8 volts.

Hey Mik , Reg 5a was the one i installed on my 750 , hasnt missed a beat  8)

was on the Sachse site couple of days ago and the 5A regulator has disappeared from their listings
all Reg5 regulators are gone

we just bought 3 x 5A units only a few weeks ago, maybe Marco removes the listing when they are out of stock

Hooksey, what battery are you running with your 5A Regulator ?

Damn it figures i order the REG4 this morning - i emailed Marco (thx Red) and hopefully can get it straightened out

hey guys what the way to test the generator - i remember doing it ages ago but can't find it in the green book at first glance and  no thread pops up

I don't think a cheap AC regulator will work on a SF2 generator, as the input side is DC.
An alternative to the old Bosch regulator would be something like this

A bit pricey at ? 127,00 but should last forever if not shorted out.

There are a few electronic DC regulators on the market now, you will find on an internet search. They are much smaller than the vibrating contact original type. You could probably email Sachse and get the one to suit, I can?t remember the type I got from them but it has been great. I also have one of those diodes that shows battery voltage mounted by the dash so I know what is going on. Similar just do a search for testing dc generator and you get lots of info.

Tis a AGM with 240cca, Sachse Reg 5a keeps it topped up nicely  8)

Would be good to chuck a Li- po in there at the next change of battery.... Just to loose some weight  :-[

The pilot luvs his Tucker and Grog too much...... so no chance he will be shedding any soon  ::)
