Replacement aftermarket correct wiring harness for SF750's ?

Does anybody know of good quality correct aftermarket wiring harness's for SF750's ? I have obtained
nice repro harnesses for my Guzzi V7 Sport & Ducati 750 GT from dealers years ago but have never
seen any Laverda ones available. Thanks
 
Which model SF? There's about 3 wires on an early SF. Whoever makes your loom, in my experience, will not make the sub looms, ie instruments and handlebar switches. Worth doing it yourself.

I paid out about £ 140 sterling for a new loom for my 3C, maybe 6 or 7 wires. I could have done it myself.

Many more wires associated with the SF1 and Japanese switchgear.

Not sure how much of your loom was replaced on your 3C Paul but definitely more than 6 or 7 wires for the complete loom on both of my 3C's. Perhaps yours has Bosch switches?

Nope, main loom is very succinct.
I doubt more that 6 or 7 wires. 1 for the neutral switch, 2 for the brake light switches, 2 for the rear light, 1 + feed. That's 6. Not much else apart from the sub looms.
 
Paul's right, anything prior to the 4-fuse models starting around 79 (co-incides with the BTZ ignition, but is not strictly related as the ignition has its own loom) has only a few wires running down the spine of the frame. All the distribution is done in the headlight, hence the spaghetti junction there. Bosch or ND switchgear makes little difference as far as I know. The difference is the 4-fuse setup, as feed has to go up the front, back to the fuses, then multiple circuits have to go up the front again. Overall a better setup to have the functions split onto seperate fuses though (IMHO).

I had little experience of the early loom until I did Eddie's 1200, it was a mess of a bike as a starting point and I'd seen photos and disparaging comments about the headlight mess over the years so figured I would just replace it all and make it like a later bike. When you actually analyse what's going on inside the headlight it's not a bad system - all the connectors are in a more or less waterproof housing, and the loom is small. The big chocolate blocks are just distributors for various functions like switched 12v, lights, earth, etc. Where it falls down is lack of space if not packed in properly and heat if the headlight is used all the time (as is required in many places). Having to work out what plug goes where is inconvenient if removing instruments or switchgear, but rarely required. The worst part of it is there is no dedicated earth wire, I installed one back to the earth point near the coils, recommended.

Getting back on topic, Wolfgang certainly had repro pre-79 looms a few years back, contact him and see. There is a bit in them, and many people do not do proper crimp joints, so better to buy pre-made if you can. Reports from people who've used them are that they are well made and easy to install (experience on triples, but likely same for twins).

Bosch headlight and non-Japanese switchgear. I have not spoken with Wolfgang yet but I
will call him. Just wondered why the aftermarket did produce high quality accurate repro
harnesses for low volume non-mainstream bikes and nothing AFAIK for Laverda twins.

I know he wanted to use my SF0 for a pattern of the earlier bikes. Lucas switchgear. Who knows if he or Chris is still interested. I guess I'll have to ask them.

not so Steve, well in most cases anyway, for SF1 (Lucas switchgear) there is no loom, each and every individual component, plugs into the male chock connectors under the RHS of the tank, and the same for SF2 and SF3 (Nippon Denso switchgear) but there are more chock connectors than on the former.

The new harness I made for the Q is only complicated because I'm running 3 (maybe four if I fit a good horn) relays and the Ignitech box under the seat. The back and forth of the original was crazy - I actually retained the strip spade connectors but have three smaller ones instead of two very long ones. I found that trying to set up connector blocks for everything was too complicated with wires from one source going to different places.
