Contra-rotating engines still used in MotoGP so they must give some benefits.
You think about that before you typed, CK?chrisk said:??? No you wouldn?t. Put an idler gear between the crank and clutch ast standard rotation ang you?d go backwards very quickly
Well, thanks a given 8) The 'layshaft' will be the 'output' shaftPiranha Brother 2 said:... unless of course Mark and Red's plan involves taking final drive off the current layshaft!!!

Maybe we drive the lower pump gear and have the upper gear 'driven'?redax5 said:have to look at the oil pump set up and reverse the flow somehow

, just saying ... (beer)

+1 , we assumed that bit may be obvious enough. no?Dellortoman said:.. that's the whole point of the idea to run the engine backwards in the first place.
Would be great to bin the primary chain with gears but was thinking the clutch, on a triple, may be a bridge too far.Dellortoman said:I've done a couple of simple drawings overlaid on the chain primary drive so you can see what I mean.

& your 'simple drawings' have confirmed that, thanks (thumbup)
cheers, Mark
markQLD said:ay Chris, but two extra gears means increasing the power loss? no?
Reckon the only geared primary I would consider is to have the crank gear directly driving the clutch gear.... way more simple![]()

Correct, and I will concede that running two intermediate primary gears may be a tad more simple than reversing the crank?chrisk said:Don't know about that, Cam may be able to calculate it.

But, I don't know what power using the stupid chain drive to clutch chews up.
