RGC or SFS?

Fork and brakes are RGS, Fairing, Seat, Footrests and Instruments are SFC. Does the zylinder head have the CR stamp? Swinging arm seems to be black so steel no Alu. Might be a RGS with SFC clothes…

Also CR on the lower left rear of the crankcase, though is not as certain ( not all cases were stamped ) as "CR" on the cylinder head. HTH j.

It was, although some SFC1000’s were also stamped with it.
1984 too early for SFC; no gold frame, the points raised by Andre makes it an RGC bitsa I think?

Having recently been sort of proved wrong about a Zane 750 Formula that looked for all intents and purposes to be a plain 750 S with later Formula style painted bodywork added, this bike is clearly a pre-production SFC1000.

Rob, if you can't find anything with Laverda label on it, there are many inexpensive solutions out there if you're willing and able to do a little custom modding. I've got a ZXR Kwaka 250 elec tacho on the SFQ. Steel body and removable bezel. Cam made me up a new digi face that I had printed, removed and refitted the glass. I used the complete unit and programmed the Ignitech to give me 2 pulses per rev to make the 250s 16,000 my 8,000. With Igniotech correction it's and accurate and dead steady. I particularly wanted the analogue type display.

You could probably pull the innards and refit them to a larger body - my previous SF custom instruments had Honda K2 tacho innards with a new face and fitted into a body I made up from poly plumbing pipe and bits. i also bought a triumph white face tach for about $25 off Gummy that I haven't used yet..

Advert states US import- a few years ago I believe this bike was for sale in Wisconsin- owner passed away & his son was liquidating a collection of cars & bikes. It is an RGS w/ SFC bodywork installed to suit his personal taste. I'm quite surprised it ended up in England!

Might be the solution to replace the SFC Veglia that has a broken needle.
Would like to replace the cable with a wire
Not easy to do so if you don't have a device providing the right signal. You can't just hook it up to the coils, it needs a rectangular signal in the 4,x Volt space. The 12 Volt system and the pulses on the coils from a Breganze will destroy the internals of the Zane tacho. Gues how I found out...:cautious:

If you have an ignitech ignition, there is a programmable output for the tacho that you can use. The speedo of the Zanes is a 1:1 fit though, it has the same setup as the breganzes and can be used with the standard cable.

you basically cannot see the crankcase "CR" mark with them installed in the chassis, as soon as normal RGS heads ran out and there could no longer be confusion at the factopry, the "CR" stamp (on the head) was dropped, this mostly applied to late SFC1000's but could also apply to special order Corsa'a, at least one late SFC1000 was converted to Corsa spec, at the factory immediatley before delivery, because Moto Laverda cocked up and built one for a travellor when in fact he had asked for a Corsa, that one I beieve was 3124, but memory fades and cant be arsed to look in the files., Slaters were also selling supplying/fitting "CR" heads when new heads were needed due to damage, some of these were stamped, some not, as the time of delivery would dictate, their could be triples out there with CR heads and the owner doesnt even know it, I discivered one such bike where the owner had bought a brand new head (was surpised he needed new valves as well at that time) but he didnt know what he had got fitted until decades later.

This is a pre-production 1000SFC, possibly #0001. Still with 16" front wheel. Note also indicator positioning, exhaust and hanger, early M1R forks with caliper adapter, 4-pot calipers.

Lothar was later custodian of #0001, looked a lot closer to production by then but still retained a few quirks.
