RGS Corsa Head identification

HI Guys,

Happy New Year :)

Last year i introduced myself as i had just purchased an RGS Corsa.

My shipping agent has collected the bike for me, i have asked for photos, but i'd love to be able to confirm it has the correct head.

I believe the Corsas had a stamp on the head, can anyone please show me where the stamp is located, as i want to ask the agent to see if he can take a photo of the appropriate area to check for the stamp.

Once i get pics i'll share :)

Front upper cam chain tunnel should state a "CR". Likewise on the engine block, left side, rear, close to the pedal.
Beware, that there are at least one example of a genuine bike that did not have the "CR" stamping.

Kind regards,
jacques

Hi ,
most of those heads have a ?CR? between 1st and 2nd cylinder between the exhausts above but some say there are others which have the CR on the inlet side and some without any. Dont care so much about it, I more like the soft RGS than my SFC?s which have the CR stamp....
RGS is the smother touring bike.
Cams are the same, valves are different.

Once you get it you will be pulling the carbs off for rejuvenation anyhow.  Also remove the rubber inlet stubs and if it's got 36mm inlet ports then in all likelihood it's a Corsa head - or at least certainly not a stock RGS one.  The inlet rubbers and carbs are still 32mm for some reason best known to Massimo and Luciano...

Sat through a long discussion about 32 or 36 somewhere recently, they agreed to disagree in the end.

Luigi apparently had good and bad days, most Corsa/SFC 1000 inlet ports I've come across were 34-35mm.

That photo looks very familiar, Rob  ;)

Btw, here's what the end of the can should look like, Steve.  And which I see your bike DOES have!  So all is looking good!

from what I have deduced over the years, many of those in fact! (years that is) is that all Corsa's had the CR stamp and that most SFC1000's did as well, but the very last of the SFC1000's did have the correct spec head but that they did not have the "CR" stamp. seen a few now,

I think the "CR" stamp on crankcases and heads was to identify a "different" build on a production line that could have included them but had many other "not special" bikes being built simultaneously. When the only bikes being built where SFC1000's, there was no need for the stamp. Strangely though the heads sold as spare parts always had the stamps if Corsa/SFC spec and of course not if standard spec.

It is a long time since Slaters had new heads on the shelves, but when they ran out and could order more,(from Breganze) they did so, but could only buy the "CR" head, the others of any type where not available, so some bikes that got repaired in the UK at Slaters or elsewhere where fitted with "CR" heads, maybe some owners don't even know! I recall the late henry Morgan being not the most happy of people (well he did like standard as in bog) when he decided that head repairs where futile and he bought a new head, but Slaters then told him the above story and he duly bought a "CR" head, plus all the valves etc and fitted it to his Jota, that bike I believe was exported to Australia after his demise.

So the long and short of this epic is that a very late SFC1000 will almost certainly have the correct head but not one stamped "CR"

Seems to me if you are actually after performance it matters not what was in there originally, but what quality of work has been done since on valves seats and guides, apart from all the rest..pistons rings bores ignition and carbs.

nah Nicko, you are not getting away with that you don't have a CR head and I have two!
quickest engine needs it. Never be the best without those loverly, loverly  41.5's but you can carry on wishing.................

Remind me Clem, what ignition are you running
.and what bhp is your bike now making after many dyno runs?😛

well then I am running a working Bosch BTZ ignition system and it is one that doesn't need the trigers changing after three months (and being left stranded by the roads edge) for a later type!

and horsepower? you wont believe it and will say  words like calibration. elevation turbo charging etc etc, but importantly the torque...................no not saying.

Lamberhurst by pass 0800 Sunday?????
make sure your tank is full this time, was a feeble excuse anyway!!!
