RGS dash pad repair

Anyone have tips on best methods for repairing the dash pad on an RGS? The pad on the 84 I'm slowly - emphasis on slowly - recommissioning needs some love. Top looks fine but the integrity of the studs is suspect. Someone attempted a fix with what looks like epoxy and a few small chunks of the foam and outer skin have separated. Whatever was used in the "repair" is falling out/separating from the pad.

I don't think plastic welding would work. You need something to bond the foam to the plastic and that can be mildly built up, which is probably why the DPO used epoxy.

Is this repair out of sight, under the dash pad, or visible on the surface?
If underneath then just use epoxy adhesive to bond the threaded fixings to the pad.
 
We can assume from this thread that the studs under the pad are not attached to any plastic structure!
If they are just molded into the foam, then urethane glue might be an option. It foams and expands while curing. A test on a small area would determine suitability.
 
The studs are welded on to metal strip that presumably is located when the pad is being mouded.  There is only a thin layer of plastic pad covering the strip.  Overtightening the nuts  that retain the pad tears the plastic as the strap is pulled out... :(

Or copy a trick I learnt from Tony Winterton, many years back ...

Don't use nuts at all.  They're PITA to get on anyway.  Instead, find some flexible plastic tubing with an id that fits tightly over the studs.  Cut a length that is long enuf to form a loop between the studs and then push one end of the tubing all the way up one stud, the other end all the way up the other stud.

Voil?!  Simples.  Pad securely held in place, no fiddling about with nuts in inaccessible places, tube easy to pull off when necessary.
 
I was going to say: make sure the threads are in good condition and greased because they?re a pain to get to... but forget that, the hose is a great idea!
Hold the hose in a kettle of boiling water for a minute then push it on, it?ll shrink slightly over the threads as it cools.
It?ll also make your next cup of workshop tea taste a bit funny....
 
Top idea with the tube over Stubbs. But really..... I have found that without any fixing nuts (which are a pain in the arse to get at) it ain?t goin nowhere !
