RGS fairing turbulence

Hi all
the turbulence from the fairing on my rgs is giving me headache after a long ride, just came back from Breganze, to Denmark iam 185 cm so normal in height I guss !
have anybody found a solution ore a modification that works ? best regards Niels

I am also 1.84 tall and I have no issues with turbolences on my RGS when I use it with a traveling speed of aprox. 160 k on the highway. But aerodynamics is depending on so many details, so it is dificult to give any advise. I just feel turbulences when I follow a car or a truck with close distance of about 40- 50 m.

I doubt it, but maybe he has an old scratched one to test. I did. I cut a big hole and then closed it off with tape until the buffeting returned to determine the minimum size. Then I transferred the opening to a new screen. It was more of a slot than a hole and was at the very base of the screen. As long as my index finger and perhaps two knuckles high with the lower edge wider than the upper, sort of a truncated triangle with the tip cut off. The end result was a large pocket of still air, at any speed.
 
One of the locals has one of these fitted to his GS BMW and had a good result removing the buffering he was getting. So I did the same on the bigger than-std screen on my Atlas. There are cheaper versions with only one arm that wobbles a lot. This is expensive but it's a really good quality gadget.
 
1.8m tall and the RGS is one of the few bikes I have had without turbulence. Ride with my visor open or shut on my full face helmet wearing ear plugs and wind noise is acceptable as well. On other bikes I have had with turbulence always went to a higher windscreen. There are other devices that mount on the upper edge that deflect air up. Other common approach is to introduce an air stream up the inside of the screen. There is a huge industry with products for modern sport touring and adventure bikes bit I dont know of specific RG fixes.
 
Niels, I think the issue with your RGS is that the screen is not original, with different radius and possibly the lack of trimming around the edge.

I’m 1,90 and find the wind protection near perfect at high speed.

Hi Marnix I think it is original, but the trimming is gone, I will try and compare with other RGS Screen when I see them there are several in DK

Hi Nils,

there are screens available with a "spoiler" at the top at least for the 1000 SFC. Maybe ask OCT (www.octeam.de) if they have them... See also this RGS advertised on (former ebay-) kleinanzeigen.de:

it has a very light spoiler in the screen ( can be seen on one of the pics)

I haven't tried it, but theoretically it should be possible to form a "spoiler" into your existing screen by heating it with a heat-gun and using your helmet to shape the form... But - I haven't tried this before and don't know if it really works, though I can not see a reason why not if you do it slowly and carefully... Problem will be to get the heat equally distributed...

Maybe there is a company close to you that makes windscreens. They can make you one with build-in spoiler using yours as a sample.

I also fitted an Alieexpress one - for £15 it was worth a try - survived for 3000 miles but not sure it would work on the RGS - the Triumph screen also has a slot in it IMG_1724.jpeg
 
The issue with the 2 arm ones is you need to make sure your original screen is wide enough to fit, my slightly taller Atlas screen is just wide enough with the mounts turned inwards a touch. Mine is multi-adjustable and strong enough to cope with Autobarn speeds, the cheaper ones are a lot less strong.
