Your thoughts for  front spring rate?

Ive done a bit of research and have come up with 1.0kg/mm for rider 100kf and bike 244kg

Im thinking 0.95 should be the goods

not interested in emulators etc, Just keeping it standard as it scrapes everything as it is now

0.9 for me. Don't trust Scottish spring rate suggestions - those deep fried Mars Bars have an effect.

Emulators shouldn't make any difference to scraping in corners. They just change the damping characteristics, not the ride height.

No idea what the spring rate is in the 41mm Showa forks on my RGS race bike project. I'll just try it and see how it goes.

Std is 1.25 I think from the green book.Mine is 0.9 from a Terry Hays recommendation,it took far to much preload at that for me to get a good sag result and I am 125kgs.Probably better a bit hard rather than soft so .90 or .95 would be good for  lighter rider.

I wasn't implying that, just trying to alleviate the "you should do this" scenario  ;)

Ah but you should...... :D
There I said (typed) it, you knew it would come.........

I'm using 0.95 ones from Racetech...... they also do the emulators  ::)......
Fitted them when I was a little lighter 100kgs and the work well, and match well with the emulators :P

Cosi, for your weight you will need 0.90
99% certain we installed 0.95 Eibach springs in the Gelati

0.9 sounds damn light for 125 kgs, Racetech recommended 0.95 @ 110 kgs

I was just browsing the RaceTech site concerning Laverda suspension offerings.

http://racetech.com/ProductSearch/2/Laverda/Jota%201000/1978-82

the section concerning the RGS/RGA does not seem to be working, at least for me.

anyway, the basics I gleaned is that at least according to RaceTech the stock front spring rate of a Laverda triple is .720, which seems pretty soft compared to the recommendations being made here.

playing around with the fork spring rate calculator, for a 200 pound rider, using 235 kgs (about 520 pounds) for a bike weight, the result is a recommended spring rate of .865, still less than you folks are recommending in this thread, or maybe I was using the wrong overall bike weight. How much does a Laverda triple weigh, anyway?

I am after a "plusher" ride on my RGS, and yes I know that involves much more than spring rate, but I need a decent starting point for a spring rate. If stock fork spring rate is apparently .720, if that is accurate, why go stiffer? I have never bottomed a Laverda front fork that I can recall.

Paul, the .90 I went with was per Matt Wiley's (Race Tech's vintage suspension guru) suggestion. I also had the fork legs anodized to reduce friction. They can do a black anodize that comes out a soft black matte. I stripped all the old paint and then polished the fork legs. It took a fair bit of labor to get them looking good, but the better the prep the better the finished job.

PLC - On the occasions I have tried the race-tech calculation page (for various bikes) it has thrown up daft numbers. I would not use it - the combined wisdom of riders is the way to go.
