RGS front wheel speedo drive ring

Hi everyone,
I removed my front wheel to get a new tire mounted. I don't quite understand how the speedometer drive ring is actually mounted to the wheel. In other words I removed the drive housing with worm gear but the drive ring doesn't seem to want to budge by hand. Somehow it must be keyed to the wheel so it drives the worm gear? The diagrams in the parts list and service manual don't provide details on this. How is it actually secured? I'm sure the tire can be replaced without removing the drive ring but I'm just curious. How is it pressed in there?
As always, I appreciate the existence of this forum and every one of it's members,

The crown gear or drive ring is just an interference fit, pressed on the front hub. No need to remove it for tyre changes.
Always good practice to clean and grease the gears when you have the wheel off. The gears are quite expensive and becoming harder to find so well worth the preventative maintenance effort.

The rarity is what is what I was worried about so I would like to remove before I drop the wheel off for mounting. I'll just make sure the tech changing the tire knows the importance...Which I will do with a cash "tip". Thanks!

Very hard to remove, would have to be a complete idiot to damage it while changing a tyre. I assume you are just giving him the rim? I would be more concerned with the high pressures required to seat a tyre on a lav rim, they are a lot different to a suzuyammakakawa.

The ring on my RGS was starting to show some wear , to prolong it's life I prised the ring off using two small tyre levers pivoted on small blocks of wood (was surprised how easily it came off) and fitted it the other way round.

Please correct me if I am wrong but are these hub connected gears case hardened and quite thin so easily cracked if messed with. I replaced mine years ago when it lost a tooth section on the worm and stopped functioning. I was shocked at the cost back them, well over $100 oz 25 years ago
