RGS mirror rubber thingy

Ok, I know this is going to expose me to all sorts of ridicule; but I don't care  ... :D

Is there anywhere In Europe where I can get one of these little darlings?  I lost one on the way over to Breganze last year; and I'm sorry, but it's absence is nagging me ...  >:(

I know Greg P. has them, but I would feel too embarrassed asking him to send me one all the way from Victoria to France. (Had intended making up big order around it, but there's really nothing else I need at the mo' ...)

TIA!

Not all of the RGSs had them, just take the other one off, solved!

Reckon I could fix you up Craig.  Send me your address per PM.

Yes, that would be the easy answer  :D.  But then again, if we went for the 'easy answers', we'd probably all own Hondas ...

I don't have an RGS, but I'm curious as to how/where that rubber fits on the mirror and what its purpose is.

I assume it is a distance/damping piece.  The edge of the mirror glass is uncomfortably close to the mirror housing at extreme adjustments, probably prevents the glass from chafing on the housing.

That's as good an explanation as I can come up with, Piet.  In my naivety, I once thought that it might be for making minor adjustments to the mirror glass itself, but without touching the glass with your sweaty finger.  It does have three ribs in it, after all.

But no.  The glass is fixed rigid  ::).

I agree. I reckon it's a damping device for the mirror glass within the mirror body. The glass is (or should be) fixed rigid to the backing plate, which in turn forms part of a ball & socket assembly. Adjustment is made by pushing on the glass or Craig's rubber thingy :D - if the glass doesn't move, then the spring / nut on the ball & socket assembly is too tight. A bit of trial and error is usually needed.
More than once I've had to replace the double-sided tape that secures the mirror glass to the backing plate, noticeable when the glass vibrates more than normal.
I've got a box of spares for the Vitaloni California mirrors, but only one spare rubber - and you know for sure what will happen if I end up giving it to Craig.... ::) :'(

Oooh, I shall have to look more closely, Mr Cudlipp  :-*.  It seems I have underestimated the sophistication of the Vitaloni California mirror ...  :o.  There was me thinking it was just an over-priced piece of cheap junk, found mainly on Ferraris and the like ...

Look ... One is no use to you.  They need to fly in pairs, Alan, pairs ...  :P

(Hopefully Mr Piet is gonna see me right  :D)

I've just realised that this silly thread has had 266 views.  Must be Coronavirus boredom or someut ...

Whilst you may be right....... :D - carefully remove the two screws from the underside of the mirror body, whilst holding on to the mirror glass, then the glass will exit the body and you'll see how the adjustment works :-*

Picked up a couple in the $5 bin at Fraser's in Sydney years ago, hate to think what they cost now.

$54.99, if you're silly enough to put the magic word 'Ferrari' in your search ...

Or 10? if you're happy with Chinese knock-offs from AliExpress  :D

Yeees - thanks.  Lying in bed last night, I had a vague recollection that it worked something like that.  And which I'd completely forgotten about.  Ever advancing old age, see.  This Forum needs an Old Man smiley, if only for me.

Will go play.  And then having re-discovered it, will forget all again, 5 minutes later ...
