Finally getting around to fitting the new reg/rec which has been sitting in a drawer for a number of years. This one comes with 3 yellow wires. on the bike atm there is one yellow connected and an unconnected yellow (zip tied in the photo). Question do I connect all 3 yellows from the reg/rec to the existing utilised yellow or can I connect 2 of them to the existing yellow and the 3rd to the unused yellow on the bike side.

If I'm not mistaken, all three phases should go from the alternator to the rectum fryer but one phase is diverted via the headlight switch and only comes in circuit when the lights are switched on. Has been a bit of a debate on this in the past but my take on it is if the company went to to the trouble of doing it that way for a reason.

if you stripped back the insulation on the 5 wires from the alternator you will find that you actually only have 3 wires with two of them being doubled up, hence you see five of them
Follow the wiring diagram as supplied, it is correct

new regulator to existing wiring
1 x yellow to the yellow
1 x yellow to blue/white
1 x yellow to green/white
1 x red to battery positive
1 x black to earth

I thought that too, Piet put me straight 👍.
I still think it was a good idea, but unnecessary and another electrical fault waiting to happen.
And you can use the spare wiring for a headlight relay 😉

sorry, not a thread hijack, do what Red said 😁

Thanks Red, the green and white was the one that was confusing me as it looks like its wired straight to the switches from the alternator. I'm not very good at electrics, but if nothing goes bang, melts or catches fire then that's a success for me
