RGS Wheel Bent Spoke

Hm, bent spoke on my RGS wheel. About 2-3 mm deflection. Looks to have been there a long time; wheel runout is well within spec at ca. 8 thou/0.2 mm. Something to worry about?

Don't know what you have available your side of the 49th but Panther Precision Wheels in Vancouver can do amazing work on repairing wheels. They have equipment to measure stress cracks and such and is the go to place for bikes and cars to get wheels fixed. Sent a couple of Ducati 999 wheels that were damaged from a highside crash that looked like junk to me. They were able to repair the one that looked worse but scrapped the other due to invisible stress cracks.

Great idea Jim - thanks. Only 40 miles away from Bellingham.
 
it is bent, so it has minutely stretched, if you get it back into shape, I think it will create a small bulge at the rim, maybe not, but its shouldn't be hard to find a used replacement wheel, check it very carefully and get it painted (or maybe both of the ones you will use) and your done, when back up and sprinting, you can then turn your efforts to the damaged wheel and if it comes good, sell it!

Good advice, I'm uneasy about it, so off it comes. Wolfgang has new ones. The repair shop won't touch it, once spokes are bent the wheel's toast, they said.
 
I personally would bin it. It might be all right, straightened or not, but there would always be that doubt in the back of my mind that would distract from enjoying the ride.
 
wonder how long you've been thrashing around on it like that already? Hard to imagine a catastrophic failure of the wheel as a result of that bend ... but I'm not the one riding on it!!
 
I have seen wheels bent much, much worse than this being fixed. Something this minor you could fix yourself. I would probably use a block of wood between the spokes to push the bent one back straight. If you are worried about it being cracked at the bend (I very much doubt it) you can use a dye penetrant to check for this. Or don't do anything, the wheel is never gonna fail with something like this.

One spoke on the rear wheel on my 3CL was bent and had a very visible crack when I got the bike. I straightened it and had the crack welded.
Now 25 years later, still no issues with the wheel.

How in the hell is you wheel so clean and shiny? My RGS wheels don't even look half this nice!
