I realized I needed a fairing back in 1972 with my Canadian 70 Bregazie 750SF.

Bug, Rain Deflector... etc and could sail past 120+ mph down any straight and I didn't get swept off the seat after 115 mph in 5th at 7500rpm.

Granted I was 5'11" @ 140 lbs and fearless back then ;o(

For under 3 lbs, I loved my Rickman fairing.

Tony should pay attention from an Irishman that owned an Italian bike for a long time.

It should NOT be hard to compare a ride without a fairing Vs one with a fairing. It's like Black and White when it comes to Road Racing no matter what your motorcycle is. Name me Racist if you want ;o)

That Rickman Fairing gave me at least 15 to 25 mph faster on the top end at over 7000 rpm down any straight without the being swept off that Breganzie.

I’m with you on that. I’ve a couple of 500 twins, one with a fairing, one without. Was out and about on the one without the fairing at the weekend and it was bloody hard work, even at my age, at anything much above 90 mph. At 100+ (All perfectly legal) it was a case of get everything tucked in and lie on the tank to give my arms and neck a rest.
However, some of the roads around the IOM are so effin bumpy, and the bike suspension isn’t the best for motocross, I was also having to stand on the pegs from time to time to save my vertebrae from crushing.
 
I generally prefer bikes without a fairing because of buffeting around the helmet and a full on blast in the face is better for me. (that's a cue for Chris if I ever saw one). But then, I could never ride as fast as you Ron :)
 
i followed a certain RGS rider onto a motorway where he promptly took off at copious speed - trying to keep up on my unfaired Jota my neck stretched back to the pillion seat - hence the arrival of the Corsa - pheww
 
I love a fairing no matter if its road riding or racing, but when I raced my MK1 Monty on short curcuits I removed it! the effect of the handlbar mounted mini fly screen fairing thing on the steering was dramatic, and on most UK short circuits you are not that fast for very long, it was said at the time, that it only helps you above 90MPH.

Yes Clem, but it was probably the wobbly swing arm bushes (oh and all the ballast the bike was carrying) that caused the mishandling not so much the fairing. I shall be racing mine this weekend with the fairing.
