Hi Paul. I am presently 68, which I am viewing as the new 48. anyone dying at 78 is still too young, especially as Jeff Beck was apparently still active and healthy and I read it was an unexpected aggressive infection.
The lawyer in my present law office with his office right beside mine is 78, loves his work (and I am speculating maybe doesn't want to spend as much time at home with his wife) still works 6 days a week, goes to Italy by himself for a month each year usually mid September to mid October, and is clear he has no intentions of retiring any time soon...... 78 is the new 58........
although working 6 days a week is nuts. I manage about 3 - 4 short working days a week myself depending on my Court appearance schedule. I did a full day appearance and argument in the Court of Appeal yesterday and was ready for a nap well before we finished

A friend of my daughter, he was 28, died in his sleep a few weeks ago. As my daughter said “He just ran out of heartbeats”

Statistics.
I'm 68 as well.
I've been retired nearly 6 years and wouldn't go back to work for anything in the world. I'm lucky to live in a country where that's possible. State pension keeps me comfortable. I liked my work but have enough, too many, interests in life.
And there's work, and work. In our advanced countries, work wears many people out. For some, 58 is rather old.
Jeff Becks age was a contributing factor in his developing an aggressive bacterial meningitis. He might have hardly noticed the infection 30 years ago or not have been infected at all. Age is a contributing factor in every ailment. It eventually kills you.
My younger sister has just been diagnosed with ovarian cancer.
Statistics again. A lot more older people die than younger ones.
Just live as if there was no tomorrow, and don't forget that there's no tomorrow for many.

You are a retired quack and still get a pension? Don't move to Oz. I plan on getting off the treadmill later this year at 70+ and will not get a quacker from our government despite being a full bulk billing GP servicing the poor for the entirety of my career. Should have oved to France. BTW, been there several times and love the place and the people.

We are lucky to live in a socially evolved country. Unfortunately here, as elsewhere, a lot of people are trying to pull it down.
