RS Bike Paints SFC1000 gold

HI all,
RS Bike Paint in the UK have SFC 1000 gold/red listed in their catalogue ,
Has anybody bought these from them and how was the gold compared to the original frame colour?
I am painting a few bits & not the entire frame etc so something close-ish to Ral1005 would be good
They list gold as #7959, I emailed asking for a image and I they sent me a picture of an SFC1000!
I know they are expensive but I’m told that it’s good quality paint and good company to deal with,
Cheers for any advice or alternate source (planning to use aerosol)
Stuart

If Ral 1005 is the right colour that you need then you should be able to get aerosols made up for you in that colour.Get one made and test it out yourself for as to a match.
I did this with the silver frame colour on mine which was also a Ral colour code.
Search out a paint auto factor company who may be able to help.

I'm not sure their colour matching is all it's cracked up to be. I bought some scarlet and some blue for my 60's Hondas and they didn't match the colours on the nos parts I had. The quality is ok though.

You can get 2 pack paint in Aerosol cans as well, but you need a proper mask. That's if its not been outlawed lately?

Stripping the bike to bare frame takes about 3-4 hours including engine out. Putting it back together maybe a day. until it gets painted and is ready for re-install, you have lots of time to clean the rest. Making it right is really rewarding, as then you can match the fork lowers, rims and some other parts to the frame color by painting them all with the same paint. makes a hugh difference...

RAL 1005 is a honey coloured gold, not quite the same as the SFC gold.
Check out RAL 1036, looks a closer match.
RAL 3008 is a spray chrome, also similar.
The SFC gold I think has a touch of green in its makeup.
Good luck.

Found this,might help?

All good info, thanks,
I’ll look at Ral1036,
Lothar yeah you are absolutely right, but I know what will happen if I strip the bike,
It will be, while I’m at it I’ll do….,,
I’ve never had a bike that was pristine, so I don’t intend to start now, just tidying it up!
Cheers all,
Stuart

No problems with the quality from RS Paints but once you add on the £10 postage it's a flipping expensive rattle can.
I've bought 4 diff or 5 colours from them over the years - none have been a great match. I don't think I'll use them a 6th time if I can find an alternative.

Hi Stuart,

I got a good match from - https://granvillesupplies.co.uk/ - in Peterborough.

They didn't recognise the codes and couldn't scan my rear hub as the scanner wouldn't fit into the recess, but they had a zillion colour swatches which we both went through & independently & came up with the same one.

I'm also in Cambs - St Ives PE27, you are welcome to bring along a part to compare the match if you haven't already sorted it out.
Cheers
Rob
