So 4 kays down the road the centre cylinder looses spark. New plugs in and same. Turn around to ride home and about a 1/2 kay from home it dies.
All 3 plugs no spark. All wires look good, Tek coils. Have power going to the hall effect p/up, can see red led light behind the Alt.
Haven't yet tried another set of coils, the spare originals but I can't see both coils dying within a couple of kays of each other.
So that leaves the Sachse box. Is there some way of testing it and how do I go about it. Slightly electrically challenged

Not a broken earth wire that plugs into the box Rob????

there is a test mode with the Sachse ignition. unscrew the plugs and hold them outside to the mass of the motor (e.g. cylinder). then you choose "0" with a screwdriver (where you switch the ignition programs) . then turn on ignition , there should be a spark.

Ok, plugs earthed, set to zero on the box, turn on ignition and nothing. Next I'll take the alternator off and have a looksee Led light behind the alt tells me there's power to the pick ups

I think that you've proved the box is faulty from that test, so no need to dig further. You'll need that test to be successful in order to check pick ups are triggering a spark

Thanks Rob.
Red has been in touch so I'm sure it'll all work out somehow. Bugger if the box has shat itself.
Probably only done about 10000 kays in a 10 year period.

Rob
I take it you have supply to it and a good earth.. ??
I had one fail it was not the box’s fault that it did fail so I contacted them they told me that they could fix it ... sent it over, they repaired and sent it back didnt cost that much ..way better service than I got from Witt when his box went down on the drummer ... lesson learnt ..
Sasche have a great service.. so why did it fail you need to understand.

Hi Brett
Have + from relay to coils and terminal 8 power in. Earths have continuity to - battery. Also continuity from - coils to terminals 1 and 10
Still need to pull the alt. to see whats going on behind that but all the wires from what I can see look pretty good.

How's the battery? You could have sulfated plates. It can show 12+ volts until it has a load, then drop off rapidly. I can't remember but I think the low end of Sasche function is around 10v. It'll crank but no fire.

I would inspect and clean all the earth connections, power too. That thin whitish powdery film creates a lot of resistance and sucks up available voltage kind of like a tiny heating element.

Battery failure? Earth cable battery to motor? I've had the same symptoms on two bikes in recent weeks. Since the cables looked good and were tight, the issue only showed up by test-grounding a plug on the frame, and then on the motor.

There is a mod done to Pantahs including mine where as standard all the juice goes to spinning the engine with not enough left to have spark produced, the fix is a relay added to the system. My 3c with an Ingitec and full Redax had an odd issue where it would do a first start and idle for 20 seconds and then die and then refuse to start for 5 to 10 minutes and then start and run fine for the rest of the day. This went on for approx a year, bloody frustrating. It happened a couple of times on a Snowy Run and thankfully Brett checked it with a Multimeter while doing it and announced it had a Voltage drop. So I now have a relay in that system as well. Never had this issue again.I have no details on where or what this relay does but it fixed my problem, not fun having a dozen other Laverda riders watch my bike refuse to start on a multi day ride. Very happy its fixed now. BTW my battery was fine and the charging was as well.
