Sachse/Redax kit

Thanks Doc and likewise it was great to meet you and the boys out there in the wilds of Powys.

I must say I did approach Clyro on Friday evening with a certain degree of trepidation and was grateful to have the cover of darkness on my approach down the long driveway to the hotel.....

Fixed  :D

Thank you to Keith Nairn for posting the REDAX KIT very promptly especially as he is recovering from injury. Cheers !

The kit is comprehensive and superbly made..Very impressed indeed..

Glad to hear that Keith didn't cut his tongue off. He can still lick stamps.

Now that would be something to see. A Scot licking an English queens backside

Series 2 tigger boards completed,

What are the trigger requirements for the series 2? I have the  2 magnet set up for a DMC. Will the board attach to the existing plate? Can it be used with an Ignitech? Does the Ignitech have to be a unit dedicated to Hall effects or will any TCIP4 work?

It will be a stainless rotor with two 3mm magnets installed at a set phase apart

I have the  2 magnet set up for a DMC.
Have never seen a DMC with magnets, all the ones I have ever seen are Optical triggers, post a photo.

Will the board attach to the existing plate?
No, the original board and triggers are taken off, the new Hall Effect Trigger assembly attaches direct to the Primary cover timing recess using the existing holes.

Can it be used with an Ignitech?
Yes, is what we have designed the unit to work with.

Does the Ignitech have to be a unit dedicated to Hall effects or will any TCIP4 work?
Standard Ignitech TCIP4 is designed to work with Inductive triggers which supply a curved signal, as we are using Hall Effect triggers which have a sharp signal, as in it is either on or off, you have to specify to Ignitech when ordering their TCIP4 that the unit will be using Hall Effect triggers. This also applies to Optical triggers, from what I understand they also have an off/on signal

attached photo is of a Sachse Series 2 trigger board mounted on a Series 2 engine, our new Redax/LX triggers will be the same mounting system as shown, is also how the 120 boards will be when we have them done in approx. 6 weeks time

Are Series 2 parts available now? Will you sell the board and trigger separately? I assume you carry the Ignitech ignition as well...?

Are Series 2 parts available now?
for the next few days they are available, from next Monday Redax is shut until mid November

Will you sell the board and trigger separately?
have to think about that one, at the moment we are still ramping up production but in the future we will sell boards and rotors by themselves

I assume you carry the Ignitech ignition as well...?
yes, we bought an initial order of 13 boxes and will be ordering more over the coming weeks

Hi MotoV

Many DMC ignitions work with the original Laverda VR (variable reluctance) pickups. Permanent magnets are built into the pickups, not the rotor. If you poke at a VR pickup with a screwdriver, you can feel the magnetism. The rotor has ferrous lobes that interact with the magnetic field as it passes the pickup, causing a voltage to be induced into the pickup coil. Because the VR pickups contain both a permanent magnet and a coil, they're quite big and clunky in comparison with Hall effect pickups, which are only a small semiconductors that looks like a small transistor. With Hall pickups, the magnet is in the rotor.

You can see in the photos of Red's pickup boards that the Hall triggers are very small, which frees up space for Red's up-rated alternator, another great leap forward in Laverda upgrades. By the way, I'm not on any commission from Red to promote his products, just telling it as it is. Clever design and well made.

As well as VRs having a different output profile to Hall sensors, the connections are different too. VR pickups have two wires, + and -. Hall triggers have 3, a power supply, earth, and signal output. So they're not easily interchangeable. You need to confirm that the ignition unit you're using is compatible with the pickups.

If you install a Hall pickup board, it probably won't work with your DMC. For a start, you need a +5V power supply to the pickups, which a DMC doesn't have.
