Scam reminder

Sad to report I've been advised about a scam perpetrator (Keith Brouhard1) on this site who is now banned. He offered a speedo in response to a Wanted post, received payment and then disappeared.
Similarly lever345 has been banned.

New members have to pass automated spam checks prior to registration. In addition I perform a manual check on registration details. Unfortunately this wasn't enough.

Please be cautious if dealing with new(ish) members with no or very limited message history. You can check on their posting history by clicking on their name and when their details box opens, click on 'messages' to open up a list of their posts (or not!). The details box also shows join date.

Dealing with Laverda owners and enthusiasts is easy and straightforward in my experience over many years. Unfortunately, despite best efforts, be aware that a forum member may not be genuine.

I have had to answer 3 pertinent questions, or write a statement of what my intest is in joining a site. But AI has recently put a spanner in that I expect. You can always use crdit card to dispute a payment stuff but I think there is a time limit for doing that.

I,ve encountered scammers when trying to sell a painting on a Guzzi site. They all didn’t seem to know what I was selling nor the price. I think they use a software that alerts them for things for sale without the details. Best to ask for a phone number or ask for a bank wire transfer, which seems to scare them off. Broken English /odd phrasing is also a sign.

Multiple forums have the "post x messages before allowed an ad" rule. It somewhat prevents this kind of sad behaviour, but as in this case, it was an offer for a 'wanted' ad, so that won't really help with that unfortunately... And with the ease of automation and use of AI, which makes detecting spelling errors, language nuances and such a lot harder as well, it is best to just be a bit vigilant and careful when dealing via forums, facebook, etc.

I tend to use paypal when possible, if I buy something and it turns out to be a box with a brick in it you can at least make a claim, which as far as I know can't be done with normal bank transfers.

Sadly, essentialy it's the same scam in real life but digital now. These type of people rip others off in real life, but doing it digitally makes it much more profitable, scalable, faster, efficient en harder to detect and be caught
Due to automation, the forum, club, or object of sale/wanted often doesn't even matter -it's simply the money they're after.

This has been reported to paypal there stance on this so far is to give the person who is on there platform committing fraud until the 28th of this month to reply hmm

I’m in a bun fight with them at the moment all they seem to be concern about is not refunding me

For me it’s not about the money l,need to get this scum removed for paypal , yes I know they will only set up a new account and start all over again

Strange thing is when I spoke paypal’s agent he told me they could not do anything until i reported it to my bank , so as requested rang my bank reported what had gone on the next day i get an email off paypal saying they cannot do anything because i had reported it to my bank

saga still goning on seems to me paypal know this is going on and are quite happy to turn a blind eye and let them get away with it

On a plus note my bank as soon as I reported this to them they gave me a full refund straight away well done to the Halifax

I've had a better experience with Paypal but admittedly that was a few years ago...

Paypal involves a certain risk for the seller because the buyer can say that he never received the goods when he has, and he gets refunded.
It happened to our recently departed Clem who sent a cable three times, the buyer saying he never received it every time.

I was a cable/telegram boy for a while …., rain hail or shine, all my cables were received!
