Seat base

Looking for an early style steel seat base, I have a new cover and good foam ready so a base or seat in any condition as long as steel base is good. Any help appreciated.

cheers

Mel

Hi Gert, i know there are different seat covers and foams but I am only after the steel seat base as fitted to 1000’s or early 1200’s models. Not the seat fitted to 120 models of 1200ts.

Sorry again for my poor description. I need basically a seat base for a 3CL/1200 model to fit with a plastic rear tail fairing.

Thanks again

Mel

good idea for you to say exactly what bike you have and (preferably) post a picture, then there is no "working out" to get wrong, there are lots of (very) slightly different types for all models from 1968 twin to 1987 triple and everything in between,

so its a triple
might be a 3CL
might be a 1200, 1200T, 1200TS possibly a 1200 Anniversary,
might even be stock or modified, of any of the above.

be as specific as you can, like they always says, very annoyingly at the factors trade counter when you ask for as an example, "3 metres of 7mm copper cored silicone HT lead please" the answer is always "whats it for mate?"

CLEM
ps I spoke to a bloke the other day who thought that all three triple front pipes were the same item and no differing between 180 and 120 still all the same. All three front pipes differ, and also between 120/180 so that is six part numbers, maybe more for all I know.

Make sure you don't end up with an SF3 seat, they look the same but the hinge positions are different.
See how we can make mountains out of molehills on here? We are experts at it.

Tatty looking object for sale there. Easy, Peasy to make one though, you can even make it stronger, using something a bit thicker than the bean tin metal the originals are, "crafted!" out of. :ROFLMAO:

OK I’ll try again!

I have a 1200TS, but I don’t like the look of the side panels, tail fairing and trim panels below passenger area of the seat. Sorry to any owners of these models just my preference. I have decided to convert it to look like a 1200T.

I have steadily collected many parts now and have the bike half built. When I stripped the bike I got many parts powder coated ready for the build. I bought a new seat cover in a 1200T pattern and as I am at the stage to set up the rear tail fairing prior to paint thought I would get the seat base out and have the cover fitted to then fit the seat on the bike. When I looked at the seat base closely something looked wrong so I removed the seat from my other 79 model 1200 triple. It is now clear to me that on bikes with the 1200TS styling the seat base was modified at the factory to accommodate the revised tail fairing and side/trim panels. The lower return edge of the seat base is cut shorter and stepped along its length. So I cannot just fit the cover because the seat will not line through with the tail.

A simple mod would be to weld some material back on but without stripping my other seat cover off it would be a guess for the dimensions.

So thought if there is one out there I might buy another seat pan. sorry I was not precise in my description but I need a steel base for a 3CL or early 1200 with tail fairing as per picture.

thanks

Mel

Speaking of not speccing the model, come across the 'need a blah blah for my SFC' quite a bit too - I reckon you should be able to call a 750 SFC an 'SFC', but you should call an SFC triple an 'SFC triple' ;)

Yes.
The triple SFC is a commercial last ditch measure, cashing in on a glorious past, from a dying motorcycle maker.

So it should read...
