Ok, I know the guy in Australia does top notch seat covers but they come at a whacking price so Is there an alternative supplier of original pattern seat covers for the early ('77) Jota and the 3C ('74)?
I talked to Leightons but they cant match the pattern on the early Jota seat. They reckon they can do a reasonably accurate but not identical replacement for a 3C.
Someone said Wolfgang has covers....are they as original?
What are your recommendations. I have 4 seats to do.
Regards Pat.

I bought a couple of 1200 seat covers and a couple of 3CL seat covers from Leighton this year when I couldn't get a hold of Tony in Eldorado (Oz).
In the end I managed to get Tony to make me a couple of original (exact) copies for the 3CL.
The Leighton ones have a sewn in square section (where the original is embossed), but the cover is too short and the Laverda logo on the rear is out of position. I paid 42 pounds each for them and can't use the, The Eldorado ones fit like a glove, are correct in every detail and are worth every penny.
Put your hand in your pocket ya tight-ass.  :-*
Pay for quality, pay once.

Have a chat with Gavin Spencer too - he's having a batch made - can't remember which models, but I do know that they include '77 Jota dual seat 'cos I've got one lined up for mine.... ;)

Alan :)

"Put your hand in your pocket ya tight-ass"
I would have a clenched arse every time I sat on a Eldorado seat I think Grant.
I Might buy one for the 3C but there's no way my old Jota is getting one!  :D

Thanks for the heads up Alan.

So what does Wolfgang supply then?

I bought a hump seat cover for my '78 Jota, and it was the same quality, looked identical, and fitted as well as the damaged cover I took off. Which was probably not original.
You just have to check with Wolfgang, he usually buys stuff in small batches and on any given day may have what you need, may not.

Ken

I too got a cover from Wolfgang for my 3CL and it was exactly like the one I took off[well not exactly,it wasn't 35yrs. old and stained with birdshit].It fit well and was only about $120 US I think.

G'day Pat

This bloke's seat covers are good quality, look original, fit nicely and are very reasonably priced. He's in UK so postage shouldn't be too bad for you.

He gives detailed instructions for fitting if you're doing it yourself. I've bought a couple of covers off him and I'm very happy with the way they look on the bikes (Laverda and Honda).

Cheers,
Cam

Cam, they're all ribbed pattern covers, I've already got a seat recovered with that type. It's good too but I want the original pattern for the Jota which is a square pattern.

Hey Maurice, I got a very good used one off leboncoin for ?50 so there!  :D

Seriously though $1000 for a 3C seat is crazy. There is fuck all to them.
Better than new? I should bloody hope so. Mind you it looks great.

If I were you Maurice I would get a second seat and keep the new one to one side.
It only takes a very short time for the cover to be split at the front.

The trick is to trim a bit off the front of the metal base on the 3C seat. It juts out way too much and unnecessarily stresses the seat cover. A little tidy up with a Dremel before painting and the cover sits better on the base, and doesn't look weird when fitted to the bike.

Quite a few triples are sold with these (recently an as-new gold Jota on ebay) - to me they do not look correct - the ribbed panel section on top should be much flatter side to side not radiused from left to right like these. The foam in the front  of my seat has worn under the panelled section leaving a slight dip but it still looks better to me than this non-original type of profile.

Still these is clearly a market for these so good luck to mr or mrs dahdah-dit (perhaps the same one that did the ditty for Nick Ferrari's show)

Hi all,

I have been following this particular thread as it was time to change my seat cover on the Jota.

The ebay ones aren't right, in my opinion, and as mentioned by others here.

I contacted Tony at Eldorado who had a cover in-stock. 5 days and $AUS 165 delivered to the UK.

The seat ribs are flat section, without a radius and the 'Laverda' logo is embossed / printed at the rear.

I haven't seen another seat cover that comes anywhere the quality of the Eldorado seat.

I hope this helps

Andy

He really goes the extra mile to make them as original.
I have had 7 or 8 over the years and the only negative is the price, but you get what you pay for.

They all do that sir!  >:(  Never mind Maurice at least the answer is at hand.
I'm looking forward to having a go at this seat.
I'll trim a bit off the leading edge of the seat pan though first.
Hope your valve problem gets sorted too.
