Selling my 1000 SFC

Hello Folks,

I have decided to reduce the number of bikes I have and as a start, I am offering my 1000 SFC for sale.

The bike is in good running condition with fresh TÜV (May) and a recent engine overhaul (complete including crank and gearbox, new 78mm pistons, new valves etc.). The engine is strong but needs to be fully run in (first 1.000km covered with regular re-torqueing of the head) .

As you know, the bike isn't fully original anymore, but most of the parts (I think even all of them except for the Exhaust) are still on my shelves. All changes were made so that you can bring it back to original by just exchanging parts. Headstock has been enforced according to the factory recommendation (which is what was done to the later models by the factory).

Modifications made to make it handling/running better:
-GSX-R-rims with 305mm discs (I have the original Oscam wheels and according discs)
-4-Pot calipers (I think I have the original P08 Oro, at least for the front)
-M1R was reworked by HH-Racetech and is now compression and rebound adjustable (original internals still available)
-Wilbers rear suspension (Have a set of original yet unrestored AG Strada Oro on the shelf)
-DMC (current version)
-new coils and ignition cables (original ones existing)
-Keihin FCR carburators with choke (original PHF32 on the shelf)
-3-2-1 Exhaust from SR-Racing, which is a BIG improvement over the original one (10 more HP peak and almost 20 more Nm in midrange). Original Exhaust not available anymore, sorry.

I also have a lot of stuff and crash parts (except for the tank, which Boba unfortunately never returned to me) like a second fairing, seat unit and I think even a front fender. A luggage set matched to the tank-color etc. is available, too.

Recent repair (and the only one since the complete overhaul) was the rear brake, which has been overhauled (Master) and the rear caliper has been replaced by a working one with new pads. Front and rear brakes have "Stahlflex" brake lines.

I will send recent pics to anyone interested after contacting me offline (it's raining over here currently, so i can not take them now...). The frame has been comletely repainted in gold (as close as possible to the original), so have the center- and sidestand as well as the fork-legs etc. to match. Tank and fairing as well as the Seat Unit have some light scratches, but nothing serious.

For pricing and other details, please get in contact via PN. Thanks

If I was in the market for a triple yours would be a top buy, Lothar. Everything you've done to it has made it a better bike. Good luck with the sale.

What size FCRs is it running?

So - fresh TÜV/MOT, still for sale. All existing original parts included, I am looking for 12.900€.

Engine is very powerfull, with - unusual for 120° - lots of torque! Original wheels included, as well as original brake- and clutch-master, Fork internals, 32mm Dell'Ortos etc.. Luggage Set with 2 40 Liter Suitcases existing etc.

Loads of spare parts existing.

Bike is ready to ride, starts and runs well.

Anyone?

Have you put it on a more general sales platform Lothar?

Very nice example of the marque. Regardless of the fact the SFC1000 wasn't state of the art at the time and it used the SFC name probably for marketing, I found mine a very enjoyable bike to explore Europe on.

Hope it finds a new rider!

It's not a sellers market, particularly for a bike that isn't special in any way, apart to the cognoscenti and there aren't many of those around.
Drop the price by €3000 and you might sell it.
Paul
thanks for your thoughts, however, I tend to ignore it this time, sorry :p

I am in absolut no rush to sell it and I will for sure not sell it even further under value.

If no-one wants it, I will ride it once in a while as I did in the past. Did the same with the Formula and that sold to a good home for a fair price for both sides.

That’s an awesome Laverda with great mods- you’ll get offers if you list the price.
Consider listing it on Bring a Trailer or Iconic Bike Auctions

Price is listed above with 12.900€. Considering that the engine has been overhault just 1.500km ago for more than 5.000€ and that you get all available original parts in addition for free, I think this is a very fair price. However, that is up to a potential buyer to decide. They do not come up for sale very often.

Compared to an original 1000 SFC (and I had the chance to compare it directly), this one handles FAR better, brakes better and - to my eyes - looks much better (don't like the red/gold color). Who does not like it may change it back, nothing has been done that is not reversable (maybe except for the larger capacity of the engine; could be "fixed" though with new liners and pistons though). And there is a ton of spare parts that one could buy in addition. if the buyer does not take it, I will sell it off shortly after selling the bike.

Regarding "bring a trailer" or other international platforms - International sales is always an issue, people need to organize and pay for the transport etc., I get that and maybe it is easier sold in Germany, Belgium or Holland than elsewere, as that is in reach of 1-4 hours with a trailer. We'll see how it turns out.

I have a Laverdista interested who is in Germany, but he can have a look only in 4 weeks. So - who ever is quicker (or offers more money... :D), this is your chance!

Another black one has come up for sale in the UK.
The competition is fierce.

Just like my 750 SFC. There was a time when there'd be 2 for sale per year, in the good years.
Now there's 10 at least at any given time.

Same for Vincents.

I recently paid $12K or Euro 10.5K for an SFC 1000 with 1875 km (total) since it was first uncrated in 2001. The bike is 100% original. It needed some effort to get it roadworthy and ready for use, including having paint damage corrected. The total cost spent on the bike lines up with your asking price pretty closely. I was happy to find and own it. Market price may be higher in the US due to the scarcity of the bikes (there are only a handful in the US), and this one having a California title/registration. I paid what it was worth to me... and for this kind of bike the price comes down to agreement between individuals, its not a commodity item.

You could get quite a bit more if you sell. Hint hint...

😁 Thanks for the encouragement, it’s the most I’ve ever spent on a motorcycle.

(I paid $5700 USD for my bevel SS, although in today’s dollars that would be about $13K. It didn’t seem like so much at the time so I must’ve been a really motivated young guy in 1993)

How exactly did you find it? I (over) paid for my 3C by half as much again 6 years ago with 2800 miles. PO had cleaned it up but still needed ignition and calipers replaced. Tank de rusted and carbs sorted. Found here. MHR with similar mileage needed a regulator after battery and coil meltdown. Looking to transform or trade to black and gold version.

The SFC 1000 was visible in photos on BaT, where the previous owner was selling his 916. I mentioned in the comments that if he ever wanted to sell the SFC too, I’d be interested. Then later we ran into each other again here, I recognized the bike and we were able to make a deal. It was great that the bike was only 100 miles away but it needed a similar effort to that you describe for your 3C, which I’m finishing up now. Derusting the fuel tank meant it had to go to Oregon, shipping was outrageously expensive, and then it had to be painted along with repair of chips in the rest of the bodywork. Low mileage does not preclude damage in storage! I’ll be in it $15K USD or so when the work is complete. Lots of little details.

I found my ‘80 900SS about 33 years ago with a friend of the family. He and his wife had one each, both bought new. He sold his first but I was in college and couldn’t afford it. Then 5 years or so later they asked me if I’d be interested in hers, a black/gold mag wheel bike. I’ve had it ever since.

I bought my Guzzi Daytona RS in 1999 from a local dealer who had sold me a new 1100 Sport a year before. He wanted me to have it for various reasons, and offered me a trade in deal that was ridiculously good. I’ll never sell it until I can’t ride it anymore someday.

Those are my ‘collector’ bikes, the rest are wonderful in their own ways but they are owned primarily to ride.
