I've a choice of getting my A11 cams reground with an Axtell profile or buying a set of 4c cams from a friend...what would you go for? I don't do over the mid sixty mph in normal riding on the twisty roads here in the west coast of Scotland

Might consider a set of A12...

Axtells will work with the A11 sprockets, don't use 4c sprockets with standard bolt holes.
IIRC my inlet cam was 3deg out at the crank so had to move it 1.5deg either adv or retard.
The ex cam was also out.
I slotted the bolt hole on the in cam that gave me the 1.5deg. The ex I had to drill and tap new holes on the sprocket and remark the TDC.
Without looking at my notes I can't remember the ex numbers or Wether they were adv or retarded
Some time later Red drilled and tapped the sprockets in a vernier pattern for that fine adjustment.
As Sock mentioned
It's worth checking any cams in standard set up as they're not perfect when they left the factory.

Axtels will give you heaps more mid range torque, you won't regret it.

With the Axtell profiles which will be done by Wolfgang, as they are my own cams returned after reprofiling can I just bolt them up to the sprockets or do they need setting up with a dial gauge ie on a slotted setup

Sounds like there would be an improvement judging by the positive comments.

@pf1 Pat, apart from the cost why do you say stick with the A11...forgive my ignorance 😉

@The Sock how do you go about blue printing the A11 cams and any pointers on who would do it.

Cheers all 😊

I say stick with the A11's because they are perfectly adequate for a low compression 1200.
My green Mirage had low compression pistons and 4C cams and I didn't like the power delivery.
I have some Axtells here that I bought but I have never fitted them.
How much does Wolfgang charge for the regrind?

I have stock pistons in both my 79 1200 and my 82 1200. The 79 has 4C cams. The 82 has A11.

The A 11 is strong and torquey from redline to top end.

The 4C is flat below about 4,500 - 5,000 rpm when it "comes on the cam" and gives a big rush in comparison to its flat bottom end, but I suspect the A11 makes more torque everywhere.

The A11 cammed 1200 is much "nicer" to ride overall.

Next time the 79 1200 comes apart the 4C cams will stay but it is going to get high compression pistons.....

Thanks 😊 👍 seems like the A11 is plenty good enough for my sort of use. I like the idea of a strong engine from tickover to red line
