Hi all . i have been re wiring my jota 1981 series 2 . and found that the charge lamp in the gauge although had the wiring in the gauge has no wiring to show charge. has anyone upgraded this so the charge lamp works ? is there a reason why it was not wired from factory? any thoughts? TIA

It never was wired in.

The charge lamp exists because it was ordered for the SF2, with dynamo.
When you order from ND you don’t order a few . So that’s what was used on the Triples complete with a red zone starting at 6,500 RPM, despite the fact that, with an alternator, it had no need for a charge light.

That's pretty clever. I run a different type of LED charge light on ther SFQ (ND alternator). It has about 4 different charge/charging status modes. I mainly wanted it to let me know when the ignition is switched on so as not to leave it on inadvertently. Once running it stays lit pale green. If it flashes red there's no charge at all - worked to let me know my old toothed Gates belt had broken. Haven't seen to overcharge mode and hope I never do.

There's some clever shit in tiny packages out there!

Not worried about a broken belt on the triple :ROFLMAO:
Overcharging is a PIA with no warning and why I put the meter on. The flashing light might be a better warning.
Batteries tend not to work in this condition and a bit troublesome in the middle of nowhere.......

If you're using a reg/rectifier unit with two white wires, run one of them to the charge lamp and then it'll work.

A few on here have added a voltmeter to give some forewarning of a problem, although perhaps the below link would offer a more elegant solution?

I have used these on a few bikes. Cheap and very easy to install.
Use the Standard CWL and it will feed the incandescent charge light bulb in the revcountdr. The bulb will not illuminate when charging but has the added benefit of intermittently flashing to indicate an over-charge / high voltage situation.

it all comes down to money, on some bikes (with a working charge light) the red lamp is labelled "oil" the cost of a reg/rect with an enabling wire for the charge light is much higher than without, you can change your reg/rect for one of these easilly enough and more readilly avaialable on the continent than in the UK.

I've been using Sparkbrigt Monsoon 8 for years, it's very reliable and gives all the info you'll need. In the attached image you can see the led output according to the voltage. Andrew (from Sparkbrigt) even programs different values according to your needs. Highly recommended.

Good to know yours has been doing its job long term, Cape. the table on his website shows that the 2 and three quick flashes indicate low battery voltage AND no charge. It's a very finely crafted product - and I never notice that it auto dims at night, but thinking of it now that is a very useful function.

I have one fitted to my S2 Jota. Get the bezel supplied loose then then glue it upside down and then its a straight fit into the ND tacho hole. Very bright red light and cheap as chips. wired into a switched live in the headlight. Easy!

Received my CWL a couple of days ago so beer on ice for a Friday night task.
As the existing Gen light has the rubber boot complete with bulb holder and bulb though it might be better to get the CWL into that rubber boot rather than use their plastic bezel (which incidentally wouldn't slide down the CWL body so would have needed modifiying anyway)
Cut the wires and pried the bulb holder from the boot trying not to damage the old rubber too much!

Fed the CWL wires through and the CWL fitted perfectly in the boot:-

Voila, we have magic (sorry for poor pic - not much beer left)

Seems to me to be a cheap and simple solution.......
