SF 750 frame engine mounts

I'm wonerding how close the 750 engine mount holes were, from one motor to another throughout the complete series.

From front head engine mount to top rear, centre to centre, I get 495mm, can any concour?

I know Phil has his 750 frame bear, can you please measure that for me and come back. Any others would also be interesting.

House is supposed to be dropping his chassis in here this afternoon
give him a call and see if that is still on and what time, you have his number
you can call in and measure his in person

ask him if he has a bare frame you can borrow, would not surprise me if he does, he has quite a few spare 750 engines
they must have been housed in a frame at some stage

I would be a bit more specific about how exactly you are measuring the distances before collating a whole load of information. Easiest way is to slide bars through the mounting holes and ensure measurements are then taken parallel to the centreline of the motor on both axis, otherwise Pythagoras will bite you in the ass.  ;)

Sorry Keith, that's how I did it on Reds motor, just presumed other would do likewise!

Boba, if you saw me, there's no way you'd compare me to Leonardo De Caprio! Bar the handsome good looks!

Hi Chris - I use a frame brace to keep the frame supported when it's going off to the shot blasters or for coating - you never know what piles of junk they'll leave it under or if it will get thrown about - I even attach it to the rolling chassis if it's going to be moved - If you sit on engineless chassis and bump up and down a step or kerb it could cause problems. My brace is 495mm C/C. I've shortened an engine by the length of a cam chain link before and made an aluminium "Sandwich" between head and top cover - if you're having problems getting motor to fit - you could try this with a thinner sheet of plate - or maybe 2 * top cover gaskets - not ideal but.... I've also bushed the engine mounting holes with thin wall steel tubing when they have got elongated and oval. - Doing this slightly off centre could help! The MOtoplast frame kits had some similar  problems with engine fitment that could be an absolute PITA to sort out - Best of luck - Phil

With Keith's caution in mind I remeasured the SF2 frame and compensated for the offset of the mounts. I get 497.3 mm.  I also measured the engine with steel rods in the mounts. The result was 495.2 mm.

That?s the same experience I made. I restored my SFC-replica with a complete engine I had in stock while the original engine was in pieces. Everything fitted perfect. After reassembling the original engine I had no chance to get it in the frame because nearly every hole was different by 2 mm
