It works because the ring rotatates freely on the tube - I've never heard anyone complain about this on an SF in 42 years of owning one (or two or three) and working on about 200. Sorry, but I have to say it ... mountain out of a molehill. If you want to complain about something meaningful, ask why they come with a clutch pull that is guaranteed to give you RSI!!!!Smartv11 said:Sorry, I've tried to accept this 'original Laverda detail', but it looks like a bodge...there I said it.
I shall look into welding a hoop on.
No Yogi - if you want to modify it (ie the bike, exhaust, whatever) you have to MODIFY it!! The lugs get in the way. I went 'halfway' when fitting the factory 2/1 - I angled the left side only (and cut off the sidestand) ... once it's got a clear run, you can tuck the exhaust out of the way completely - never ever again to drag upon the asphalt (while the bike is rubber side downYogi said:Just wondering if it would be possible to fit an SFC style centre stand to a standard SF frame without having to weld different lugs to the frame - a conversion kit if you wish... I would like to be able to use an exhaust system (2:1) with headers that tuck underneath, utilising the standard frame lugs. It sounds unlikely, but could a kit be designed to work?

Clay, when I only modified the left side of the centrestand I reversed the orientation of the tang that the spring connects t on the frame - now that I'm making a full SFC-style stand (for twin system) I'll relocate the tang again. With that sand you can use either a 2/1 or the twin system - major benefit is close to unlimited cornering clearance. Another mod I'd highly recommend is laying the shocks forward a-la later triples. It makes the rear and way more supple and compliant - I really notice the diff when I ride a 'rigid' SF. It's not a hard mod to do. I set my rear so that the swingarm extends about 3/4" more than std, to compensate for the softer ride.'71 SF said:OK, when changing to the new lugs and SFC center stand does the spring and ring still get used like the old stand? And does changing the stand make it possible to use either 2/1 and the dual SFC style? Not committed yet on which exhaust I am going use but I am starting on the frame modifications for the fairing mount (Boba Fairing), seat (the SFC solo from Boba), and rearsets by removing the front peg mounts and side stand bracket. Not sure if there are more things to take off but I am trying to get it all done at the same time.
Suggestions? This not a SFC "replica" build, just making it a bit more sporty through weight reduction (and maybe shedding a few pounds off of the crank). The CF work Boba does is simply beautiful and there is no plan to paint over it, kind of a stealthy look. Just need to figure out what color to paint the frame.
