SF selector drum and plate differences

Anyone know if the selector plates changed from different SF models. I've got three and each assembly is different. One has a locating pin and the cutout for neutral is a al Series 2 triple, but the cutout orientation of a twin - also has a more 'curved' slots for the selector pins. I'm thinking it might be off an SF3?

My SF1 has no fancy neutral slot, but it does share the long ridge for activating the neutral light switch. The third one looks identical to my SF1 one but has a small raised 'pimple to activate the neutral light switch.

They must have different part numbers.

Quentin,

Are you sure those are all twin items? Comparing them to my stock, they are both triple plates.

I've only ever found "plain" cam plates in twins, the cam plate with the raised edges should be from a late triple, quite some time after twin production ceased. The cam slots should actually be mirrored to that of a twin due to the opposite direction of travel. The neutral activation dimple should also be slightly differently positioned.

Seems the locating dowel was added somewhere early in the twin production, all triples have that dowel.

RH selector carrier is NOS750, LH triple. RH cam plate is triple, LH is twin.

I thought you must be right and I've got two spare triple plates ... but ... i went out to the garage (it's hailing and 5 degrees!) and took a pic of the plate in question sitting next to my installed SF1 plate/drum - identical in every way, except for the 'upgraded' indents! The pattern is not reversed but it has the funky indents. Odd one?

New one on me, Quentin! Strange, but cool.

For comparison, the pinned selector drum from a twin and a triple, with their different markings.

Yes, i think it's pretty cool too - there I was hassling Red to send me a triple 'upgraded' plate, intending on reversing my rearset gear lever orientation to retain my 1up-4 down race pattern, and I come across this in my box of spares - didn't even know I had two spares. I think it may have come with the SF3 gearbox and clutch I swapped for an SFC rear hub and disc about 15 years ago.

I might have a play with the lathe and drill to hot it up (ie lighten it) ... lockdown fun!

Not really... the small selector drum is waisted for lightness, the cam plate has had the hell drilled out of it and the pawl arrangement is stiffened. Oh, the axle of the internal drum is also drilled to save a cuppla grams. Same old stuff, just pimped a bit for weight-saving and reliability.

Yes, those different parts.

You will have to use some tough as all hell drill bits on the selector plate, hardened all the way.
