Hi All
I'm in the process of refurbishing a SF solo seat.

Custom and slightly more comfortable cover yes :)

The only parts I'm missing are the screws for the metal pad.

Do any of you have a good photo of these screws that you could post here ?
So that I can try and find some new ones that look very similar.

Many thanks for your help.

Cheers
Stéphane

Where did you get that cover- it looks very nice and mine needs replacement. I can't say for certain that mine is period correct, but rivets are used to hold the retaining band. The rivet counters can say otherwise-

Hi Teddy,

That "state of the art" custom cover was made by a french, very talented, craftman a few weeks ago (friend of mine).
He specializes in making custom saddle covers.

Beside the padded top side of that cover what really makes the difference re comfort is the modern grey foam pad.

Like Rob wrote, I do confirm that bolts are used to secure the metal pad.
No rivets.

BTW ..
I take advantage of this post to announce that I can also offer covers for SFC saddles.
I will advertise them here soon.
They have been waiting for quite a long time.
(my upholsterer friend has been undergoing heavy chemotherapy treatment for two years ...)

Do you know what the special grey foam pad is made from, Steph? I made my own pad but while it's OK confort-wide, I reckon I could do better. It starts to feel a little 'squashed' after a while, as if the foam is too soft.

I used these, from EBay (item #360663423253)with stainless washers and nylock nuts on my seat.

I put a gel pad in both of my seats, Quentin. Makes the long trips far more comfortable.

Be careful with Gel pads in Oz, I did that on my Pantah and the first ride was to a western Sydney bike show in 40c plus weather. Heading home I had to stop and wet my seat with chilled water to cool it down. Those gel pads heat soke in direct sun to skin-burning temps. Mine was maybe 10mm thick under the seat vinyl but on top of the foam. I think they are used in optional comfort seats sold by some bike companies, it shocked me at the time, never heard any other stories about this effect.

Hi Quentin,

It's polyurethane foam ..
Synthetic

Unfortunately, natural latex for saddlery no longer exists.

Yes, sadly latex is virtually impossible to find - although I'm sure it's used in high end mattresses. It used to be readily available in Australia as Dunlopillo. Fantastic stuff. I'd use it in an instant if i could find it. I may actually visit some local mattress makers and ask if it's possible to buy a small quantity. In the meantime I have my fabulous Air Hawk seat cover, but it creates a different feel to the 'seat-of-the-pants' direct contact with the seat.

I was mistaken about rivets used on my seat as a closer look shows these flat socket head bolts were used, probably by whoever recovered the seat, and I agree that a domed head looks better. It's unfortunate I can't use a dye to freshen up the vinyl cover since it's in good shape but a little too faded.

Tony at Eldorado, in Oz, does excellent replica seat covers.

I was contemplating trying a satin vinyl paint (since dye won't work on the vinyl and rub off), but that probably won't work, so I'll look for a local upholsterer.
