SF starter motor colour

Want to paint the rusty end cap on an SF ND starter motor. Bought a can of automotive silver but it looks totally wrong, chintzy and cheap and way too bright. Anyone know a decent match for the original?

I did one successfully decades ago but can't remember the colour.

I did mine in Mitsubishi wheel rim silver. Greyish silver

I would make a suggestion but I better not. I painted my RGS yellow therefor my tastebuds must be up my arse, third shelf on the right

I use a metallic silver VHT engine enamel that’s both heat (not really important) and fuel resistant (quite pleasant). With a bit of luck you can paint 30 starter motors with it.

If you search on BMW engine silver, various companies do a spray can version. We used it a lot and seems like it suits a lot of bikes engines

This reminds me of The Hitchhikers Gide To the Galaxy. There was a huge delay back when Humanity first made THE WHEEL. It took ages to decide what colour to paint it.
