SF tank badges

Anyone got a pair of SF tank badges, the bike I recently bought had the indentations filled in and Lav stickers covering the handywork
 
Hi Paul, you are a mine of information, this is the botch up that I found

I am just about to start grinding the filler out hoping that the badge mounting are still in there somewhere

I imagine you'll find the badge mountings. 2 4mm threaded holes.

I don't have any of those type of badges but replicas abound at your usual dealers.

Your Ceriani was in the post this afternoon.

Hi Fitz, send me a address and I'll send you two they just need painting. I'm sure you'll know a boaty that's handy with enamel and brush.

Don't grind ....... use heat. If it is standard body filler putty then a heat gun may work or even better is a propane torch. May be able to prise out the whole mess in one piece.

I might have a spare set of badges that need to be re-enameled. Where do you live?

If you grind deep enough to get an explosion ...... you deserve it.

I'd be more worried about damaging the tabs for attaching the badges. If there are no dents then heating the putty to get it out would mean less work prepping for paint.

Thanks for your generosity all, very helpful. The tank has not had fuel in for a long time, not even a residual whiff of petrol

I was only going to use a Dremmel, nothing too severe

I have sent my address to one you generous people so all being well I should be OK< I will speak to Malc about re-doing the enamel, everyone raves about his work
 
He uses an old master. Prices are fair via Malcolm. I'd be happy to send some over from Oz to be done. ... light and cheap shipping ... once covid is behind us probably a good idea

hi Fitz, I know you have a blaster so I would use that, that's what I do before spraying it never fails to remove everything that annyos the spray man. If you need a top spray job let me know and I'll send you his details. He lives in Sandbach. Regards Andy
 
Thanks all, I will let you know what I find later today, I'll try the propane torch route first seems like an idea. I have a top class body shop on my site and my pal that run's it is also a bike nut having restored two immaculate Yamahas in the past few years for his own collection, RD400 and 350LC both better than new now
 
Why should Malcom Cox reveal his enameller?
he gets a PROPERT trade only price and makes a reasonable profit, no one loses, because even if it were known who this supplier is, you would get charged the same retail as Malc will charge you anyway,  because you only go in once in your lifetime with a small order. These contacts are very hard to find and getting harder, I can tell you for instance that Malcolms chromer, DOES NOT DO MOTORCYCLE PARTS EXCEPTING FROM MALCOLM, when he stops taking motorcycle parts to them they will no longer be doing ANY motorcycle parts, and its the best chrome you will ever find!
Malcolms input is hugely valuable, let it be.

Thanks for the suggestion about using a propane torch, it made the job very easy and not too messy, the tank is roughed out ready for my paint man

I have the front mudguard as a colour sample, I asked if anyone knew the blue colour code used, I have seen it on 750's and 3 cylinder models, I think getting it matched is quicker than fannying about trying to establish the correct codes

Thanks to all again, specially the propane torch fiddle, took about twenty minutes
