Can anyone measure the distance between the legs of the centre stand at its base. When I tried to mount my side stand it hit the centre stand. I discovered one of the legs of my stand is bent outward. I need to know how far to bend it in when I heat it up. Thanks.IMG_1437.JPG

It’s a ‘73 SF1. When both stands are up, the side stand hits the leg of the centre stand. When the centre stand is down (not that you’d normally do it) the side stand hits the arm of the centre stand. The lefthand leg of the centre stand sits out too far as you can see in the photo. That leg should be more vertical. I want to know what the distance between the two legs should be so I can bend mine into the correct position.

If nobody comes up with an answer, I'll go and check tomorrow. You might have to remind me. :)

Also, check for wear on your side stand pivot area. If worn (axial and/or lateral) the action of the spring pulls the side stand inboard.

Not as critical measurement - I'd just bend it sufficiently to give you adequate clearance. But to my eyes the two arms of the centrestand look eq. Maybe something in the side stand lug or the stand itself?

My SF center stand measures @ 8.75" across on the inner sides, and the side stand does brush up against it. There should be enough "slop" on your side stand to clear it. Bending the robustly built centerstand will be hard to do and may result in the bike leaning over a bit instead of straight up and down, and the tang under the exhaust may not fit as well, depending on the exhaust and it's fitting.

Both have to be deployed separately- it would've been nice had it been designed differently, but it does work as is. I suppose one could re-locate the side stand by welding on another tang on the frame, or fashion something clamped on, but why bother.

The factory should have adopted the SFC shaped stand years ago - anyone trying to fit a slimline or underslung exhaust to gain more cornering clearance will know why. Means doing away with the side stand, but they could have come up with workable alternatives for that too. I've got this weird concept of a side stand fitted somehow to the left arm of the centrestand ... most likely unlikely

Panniers limit cornering clearance as well.
