SF1 leather Seat

Hello Folks
Having used and enjoyed the forum for a while the time has come to jump in with both feet. I have a couple of queries regarding the seat fitted to my 1972 SF1, one is curiosity, the other advice please.
It is fitted with what looks like a standard type 'letter box' hump seat, but the cover is leather as opposed to vinyl. I suspect it's an owner upgrade but it looks very well executed and was clearly done a long time ago, so my question is - did these seats ever come leather clad when new or is it indeed likely to be a bit of period personalisation?
I'm going to keep it like this but the leather is a dark blue colour and I would prefer to have it black to better match the paintwork. I don't really want to use leather paint, I would prefer to 'dye' the leather black, has anyone had any experience dying or painting leather motorcycle seats and if so are there any recommended products?
Cheers
Bruce

Leather isn't original.
You have the choice between a blue bottom and a black one when it rains. A wet bottom in either case.

Vinyl only and with wider pleats, the cover extended only over the front edge of the hump. It was secured with a chromed strap along its edge. Hump painted satin black.

has anyone had any experience dying ...
I don't reckon there would be many who have died and come back. Although I know that Levo was once pulled from the surf with no pulse. Someone did CPR on him and brought him back. I reckon if you asked his opinion, he'd advise against trying it.

If you're talking about changing the colour, it's dyeing, not dying.

I brought a pair of very expensive riding pants a good few years back on special, only problem was they were bright red and with my predominately red jacket the first time I wore the full suit I was referred to as a particularly happy fellow who delivered Children's gifts once a year. That had me searching out a commercial dying company and those Red pants quickly became black. Just lately that black has slowly changed to a dark green. Apparently UV light has an effect on Dye over time. At least I don't get Santa jokes anymore even with the white beard. BA HUMBUG. Anyway, it appears Dye isn't as permanent as you might think. BTW the seat looks great but I guess feeding the leather to stop it from drying and cracking would also make it slippery, tricky.

Any photographs, Vince?
Could be the perfect 'December' for the 2023.

No pics, they were dyed after one sighting. Way too embarrassing, I think it was Chris P who mentioned Santa, I am the sensitive type. BTW they are Mosport GP2 Kevlar lycra stretch pants made in California. I love them, comfortable extremely crash-resistant and wearable in all weather from Freezing to 40c plus but horrible in bright red, I wondered why they were so cheap and on special.

Are you dead certain?

Thank you all for the advice, on seats and suits and of course spelling.
I'll have a wee rake through the web to see what I can find out about dyeing leather.
Cheers
