I’ve been having fun with the ignition switch on my 73 SF1.
I couldn’t get the Bosch switch to connect as it is shown in the wiring diagram.
It’s not made to come apart but I had a go anyway and carefully prised it open.
That’s when I discovered that the ignition key that came with the bike was absolutely nothing to do with the switch!
The proper key is a weird bit of bent metal that makes one of the connections just by pushing it in the lock. The key that came with the bike did nothing like that but it DID turn from position 0 to 1 and 2…
So it “sort of worked”
Anyway if you need a new key for one of these locks you won’t be able to get one cut.
So, with some creative googling I find the switch is identical to those fitted to old Mercedes trucks and available on Scamazon for £15 complete with weird key.
And again weirdly they only come with one key. I bet the keys are identical from one the other. They sure look like it.
So I carefully reassembled the old one and… the new key made some 50 years later fits!
The internal pinout is identical so it’s a straight swap.
