Rebuilding a SF1 and was wondering if anyone has any photos of the area around the headstock with the tank off.

Specifically I am looking for the best routing for the control cables ( clutch, throttle and choke ) also wiring. I could muck around and get it but would prefer to get it right first time.

Also is better to use 5 pin connectors for the speedo and rev counter or bullet connectors.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Joe

Depends on the available space & current rating. It's also quicker to pull a single connector apart than 5 bullets, along with the risk of wrongly paired bullets unless you match wire colours

Hi, most of the electrics are on the right side of the frame just back from the headstock. Clutch cable goes from the left across the top of the headlight to the right side and crosses to the left halfway down the main frame tube and comes out just before the left carb and then goes underneath. The choke from the right single into a junction for both carbs and throttle from the right underneath the main frame tube two separate cables.
Hope this helps

Depends on clutch cable. The longer ones, with lighter pull, go outside of the left hand carb.
Electrics equally split between right and left on mine.

that's what i said clutch cable comes out by the left carb and then goes under no interest in after market items, sf1 the electrics are on the right then the coils then the voltage regulator then the carbs and eventually you end up at the rear number plate i think 🤔.

Sf1 and SF2 have different looms so you need to decide which you want your info for. I route cables after all the wiring is in place and cable tied away. Then you can simply choose the smoothest route for your cables. For ex, run a cable under the rubber tank mount or over it, right side fo breather hose or left, long clutch cable or short clutch cable determines the best route.

Basically, you want the most open curves you can get with freedom of movement when the bars are turned to full lock. I'd ignore the rivets in the case of cable and loom routing.

Yes. Run the cables where they're happy to live.

Thanks to those that have taken the time to reply to the above request, the reason I asked for photos is that as ridiculous as it may sound I have a little difficulty in following written instructions, pictures I can work with words I need help with.

Thanks for your understanding.

I understand fully.
Did you get photos?

Paul

There you are Joe.
It's not as it left the factory since I rebuilt the bike around 1990, but it's been faultless near 30 years.
I was very surprised to discover that the throttle cable went around the steering column and along the left towards the cable splitter.
The 2 thick cables on the right are clutch cables. I always double up the clutch cables so as not having to undress the bike in the occurrence of a cable break. Since I've been doing that, I haven't had one break. In fact, I've only had 2 clutch cables break in over 100 000km.

If you have an early SF1, things won't be the same since the connector block is up by the rh front of the frame rather than under the rear of the tank.

Don't mention it.
The bike will be getting all dressed up now, and cleaned for a little holiday touring.
Oil change done.

Paul, you've got two clutch cables?

An old touring trick.
In case of breakage, saves taking the tank off to change the cable.
Haven't had a broken cable since I've been doing that.
Have only had 2 break in 30 years anyhow.
