SF2 carb synch

So I got my self a new manometer to synch the carbs on the triple.  I've always done the SF by ear but since I now have a tool that will work (a lot better than the old one hopefully) I figured I'd use it on the twin.

Question - as you can see from the photo there is both a blank screw for insertion of an adapter on the carb body and an 8mm stub coming off the carb mounting flange.  Is one a better option for synching the carbs than the other?

The only time I did it was off the balance tube take off on the intake stubs.
Otherwise, I just stick an index finger in the carb mouth and make sure both slides are an equal distance from the cutaway at the top, then set slow running.
