SF2 frame questions

Just stripped the frame and have a question about a couple of brackets. Can anyone tell the purpose of the bent bracket near to where the exhaust hanger should go and also if the rear brake cable mounting point is correct as it looks pretty home made? They are both on the left hand side of the frame. Also found the rear engine mounting plate cracked.....pretty normal I hear?

I'm in deep now and there's no turning back!

Thanks again
Jamie

The slotted bracket is for the brake light switch, thats whats on my 3c and its on the left side on my 3c.Dont recognise the thin curved rod,I think the solid round bit originally would be on the right side of the frame to take the end of the brake cable on right side rear brake models.Bit hard to work out from the close up shots.Be good to see a bigger pic to get perspective. My guess is someone swopped its side. This is all from memory,to dark to check mine.

only photo i found before i fitted the rear-sets.

Nasty fit on the muffler Mark!!
It looks like the brake cable bracket has been reinforced on Badger?s bike, maybe it cracked at some stage. Could have been neater.
They reckon that broken engine mounts on SFs are caused by incorrect tightening but I have seen it on factory tightened ones. The price of vibration. You can reinforce it by adding another plate on the correct side, a good idea IMHO.

yea Lee, Ducati Conti's as delivered.  no, i don't want to talk about it.
it's unfinished business.  the Ducati Conti is a tad too big in tube diameter and the clamp has been severely over-tightened and also has a thin tin sleeve wrapped between the Laverda 'balance bulge' and the Conti.
not pretty.  but it will have to wait.

Thanks for the input guys, never too sure what is factory fit and what is DIY with a new bike. With the project I got a nice set of rearsets so I'm going with these - where is the best place to locate the brake light switch without using this bracket?

Cheers again

Jamie

Cracked engine mounts usually result from missing spacers when the mounting bolts are tightened.  Engine fit in the frame can be from sloppy to quite tight.  I often find gaps of up to 1.5mm, these are filled with a washer of appropriate thickness, before final tightening.

Later SF2 frames can have rear brake cable and switch brackets on both sides, allowing the fitment of RH brakes to fit in with US regulations.

Heres a photo of my frame with a extra bracket and a broken or removed muffler bracket. I think they did this modification so they could use a SFC style exhaust system.

Ernesto, his cable stay is on the inside, the photo is taken at a very odd angle.
Jason an SFC 2/1 won?t fit your frame as it is, the sidestand bracket and centrestand lug both have to be removed for it to fit. SFC had the centrestand lugs closer together then SF.
