Hoping for info on position & orientation of the cupped washers that are included in the swingarm needle roller kit. Thanks!

Squeeze grease in until it escapes left and right at the frame pivot. The washers do not accelerate wear as the grease does not move during use. It relies solely on regular shifting through the owner, it's entirely up to you how fast the bearings wear.

I recently bought a gadget that adds spring-loaded teeth to the end of a grease gun. It's so much easier than having to push the gun hard against the nipple with one hand and pumping with the other. Snap it on and it attaches and pump till it squeezes into view. After seeing how hard it is to replace swingarm bearing a few easy pumps suits my lazy arse.

Squeeze hard and fast (said the Bishop to the actress).

If you go-slow with the grease gun, the grease will just take the path of least resistance and one bearing might not get any throughput.

Good idea, but in reality, it's the tight fit between frame and swingarm that hinders grease access to the bearing ends. The cupped washer really just centres the middle spacer so the axle can go in easily. i have used an o-ring for this in the past, with enough external clearance to allow grease to travel throughout. I think some punters loosen the swingarm pivot nuts a little before applying the grease gun - to help the grease exude under pressure.

Installation:

  1. Apply a thin coat of grease to the inside of the swingarm bushing and the outside of the swingarm needle roller bearing.
  2. Install the cupped washer on the inside of the swingarm, with the cup facing inward.
  3. Install the swingarm needle roller bearing on top of the cupped washer.
  4. Install the cupped washer on the outside of the swingarm, with the cup facing inward.
  5. Tighten the swingarm axle nut to the specified torque.
Note:

  • It is important to install the cupped washers in the correct orientation, as they help to distribute the load evenly and prevent premature wear on the swingarm bushing and the swingarm needle roller bearing, you can visit https://www.tradebearings.com for more.
  • If you are unsure about how to install the swingarm needle roller kit, please consult your motorcycle's service manual or a qualified mechanic.

'Cupped washer"? Isn't the cupped washer simply to keep the centre spindle/spacer axially centered? I recall that the cupped washer fits inside the middle section of the swingarm (not between the swingarm bearing inside edge and the needle bearing housing). I've used o-rings for the same purpose.

This is the gadget I bought that connects solidly to grease nipples, making it really easy.
