Hello all, has anyone used an inner rear mudgaurd on an early SF. I have two seat for mine neither of which are standard so tehre is no rear mudgaurd fitted. This is leaving my newly painted swingarm and the back of the motor to be open to all manner of shite thrown up from the rear wheel. I have a very neat plastic item on my Monty race bike, a standard Lav part I was told. I could use a universal hugger but the ones I have seen to date are pretty shabby looking and bit modern for the look of the bike, I am not going for a concours restoration but proper riders bike
 
I used a motocross rear mudguard - 'twas many years ago - so not sure what bike it was from. In black it doesn't even notice, it's light, indestructible and cheap. - here's a link to the sort of thing i mean. - regards - Phil

Thanks Phil, thats the just sort of thing I was considering. Do you think I will be hung drawn and quartered for using a Rickman seat on my SF, I am working on another one of my bikes - a Rickman CR750 Honda, I bought a brand new seat for that. While it was lying around, I put the old Rickman seat on the SF along with the standard tank, it looks like it should have been on the bike as standard. The original one that was on the bike is real rarity, from what I can see it may be made by Menani, I found one very old photo of one, nice enough but it was rough and nearly in two pieces. I have repaired it now but it nowhere near as good looking as the Rickman job
 
Yeah, don't even think about what anyone else might think!! If the bike has no rivets, there;'s nowhere for them to start  :-*

I'm using a cut down FZR1000 rear guard and half a fibreglass front guard from a KR250 under the SFC seat on the SFQ ... as Phil says, it's black and almost invisible, so doesn't matter a toss - as long as it works, I don't care.
 
Well now youv'e got me at it, I was day dreaming the other day thinking that the bike would look great in the old Gulf Racing colours - too far !!

Why not?  At least it wouldn't be yet another ALL orange Laverda.  :D.  Probably best avoid having it look too like a Ducrappi, mind  ...

Phil37 - I like your SF - Lots of ingenuity and innovation there.

I had that same dimple in the tank - They would sooner fall over parked just looking at them ;o)

That dent should have been originally molded into the SF Tank.
 
That's what I have in mind, I can now plough on, it just shows that my old granny was right -  there is little new under the sun
