SFC 1000 Engine Mountings Hardness?

Can anyone advise on the correct Shore (D?) hardness for SFC1000 / RGS / ? / Rubber engine mountings, and where to buy new ones that work? I'm fairly confident the 33 year old items on my old nail are significantly harder than when they were new. I know Motalia are selling new mountings in nice shiny stainless but I am more interested in duplicating the original performance of the mountings that Laverda spent so long on perfecting! Thirty miles on my SFC1000 results in VWF syndrome. Carbs and ignition are balanced and of course the crank could be knackered but I thought I would try the mountings first... The 180 Jota is so much nicer by comparison

Thanks,

RB

and you can suffer the chicken shit plus the need for a crow bar to get the holes in line.
He does black as well and the chicken shit is marginally less.

Agree with Lothar, check the bolts from the rear engine mounts, especially those that go into the engine case. On my Corsa they were quite loose. They are a bit of a pain to get to but good chance they need tightening and this will fix the problem. Then you can make sure the engine is tuned. The vibrations are different than a 180, but I find the 120 much more livable. Also in my opinion the SFC and Crosa with their additional power over a regular 120 vibrate a bit more than a RGS 120.

Thanks everybody! Will check all fastenings properly tonight and report back...

While you are at it, check the exhaust manifolds are tight!
I chased a strange vibration on my Jota 120 for a while, the engine vibrated like a bastard all of a sudden, the 'tinkling' noise eventually gave it away.
Once I tightened the manifolds normal smooth service was resumed.

I did also have a loose engine mount once, Keith N found it after I reported engine vibrations, he timeserted the offending rubber mount.
Again this fixed the problem.

Interesting thread, this!
I have three 120s, an SfC, a Jota and an RGS.
The RGS goes well, but has always been rougher than the SFC and Jota 120.
Carb balance etc. is fine. Need to look at the mountings...
The Jota 180 is fine until I hit about 4500 RPM, thereafter goes like stink and vibrates like a jackhammer.

Rubber engine mountings from my bike were investigated at local rubber part manufacturer a couple of years ago. They said that the original hardness is 60 to 65 Shore.

All very useful and I did find both bolts on the upper OS mounting above the chain sprocket were loose! All the others rock solid and agree the bottom rear ones are a B....... Will take it for a breakfast test run tomorrow; any excuse!

ShoreD of 60 to 65 sounds right but no idea what my one are, or how to test them, so will look for equivalents.

Thanks,

RB

if you find them, let us know, please! I was told that all that are available on the Laverda-market are to soft. But maybe thats wrong, haven't replaced any as of yet.

I've had a set of the aftermarket stainless mounts from Motalia on my RGS for many years, no problems to report.

As has been said (and found!), the bolts can work loose, particularly those near the gearbox sprocket. For the avoidance of doubt, bolts should be high tensile and the correct torque settings are as follows:
  • 40 ft lb for the 10mm studs.
  • 24 ft lb for the 12 No. 8mm fasteners that fix the engine mounts to frame
Alan :)

I have even higher numbers, but they do only work if you use the correct screws. No 8.8, they need to be 10.9! Only then can you tighten them with the right torque...
