I've been a Laverda owner since 1982 (Slater 180 Jota). I then bought a Montjuic, and in 2014 decided I should start racing. I won the BHR F1 championship on the Jota in 2016 and then came third in 2017 in the F3 championship on the Montjuic. I swapped the Jota for a couple of Montjuics from Phil Todd and carried on racing them, never winning the title but coming second. I then decided I needed to complete the BEARS set and so swapped one of the Montys with Phil for a SFC replica race/road bike.
The bike was originally raced by David Isles (against Phil Todd!) in the 1970s and then used as a road bike for ages after that - I've met a number of former owners at Laverda events since.. The engine is a standard SF750 but with SFC crank and other components (valves, cams etc) and it runs smoothly. I raced it in 2022 at a few events but couldn't compete in the full season due to work commitments. I'm now 62 and have decided to give up competitive racing and I've got many other bike I'd prefer to use on track days (MV Agustas, RC30, 916 etc.), hence the sale.
It has a V5 in my name, I've got all the lights etc. to get it road ready and it just needs someone to run it. It's not perfect, but it is a Laverda, and I love them.
The engine has had the crank straightened and balanced, carbs stripped and ultrasonically cleaned, bike stripped to get the frame powder coated, exhaust system modified to add a can to keep noise low. That’s it. I’ve never ridden it on the road, only track days and three race meetings and Ged Shorten checked the bike over for me before I took it on track.. It goes really well - handling is the best of my Laverdas and the brakes are every bit as good as discs. If I was to continue racing I’d change the rear shock absorbers for fully adjustable ones. If you wanted to put it on the road, you could fit a speedo and change the gear change back to road shift and refit the more upright rear sets (I’ve got them and the side stand). It splutters a bit at low revs now but I think that’s the pilot jets gummed up since it’s not been used for 18 months. Runs great above 3,000 revs. I’ll get that sorted though.
I'm looking for £6,500 and I'm near Derby in England.
