SFC Style Seat on Triple

There is nothing plug and play about fitting different seats to Laverda's Pat.
In my experience both the frame and the seat unit need modifying to make it work properly.
That said it definitely aint rocket science and anyone who is competent can give it a go.
just be mindful that your level of competency will be judged by your result.... :ROFLMAO:

The trick is making it look simple and easy, mine was made by cut and shutting 2 fibreglass seats and joining them together with a sheet of alloy, so the from half is a 3c fibreglass base had the 3c slots to take the frame barbs and the rear was SFC style hump that I added some slotted blades hanging down to connect with the 3c rear mounts. Heaps of work, and then I discovered Andy Wagnor sells SFC seats that fit Triple frames. Live and learn. BTW my SFC look a like seat has a hinged section underneath in that alloy sheet to access the seat hump for tool storage. I don't know what model triples fit these style seats from Andy. Just the fibreglass, you do your own padding

I don't know who sells them, not even sure Andy still done. As said above SFCs have very long tanks so to fit an SFC-style seat on a triple the seat base needs to make up that distance plus have some form of mounting. Someone must make them as you do see a few in pictures. In my case I use the seat for sporty day rides as it's not so thick padding isn't very comfortable and for multi-day rides, I use a more std style seat that's much more padded for touring. The issue with that is it doesn't look brilliant using an SFC seat with the std 3C long rear guard holding the tail light and number plate and to use both style seats it's a hell of a lot of work to change that detail easily. So I don't.

A few years back I was trying out a SFC style seat on the 3CL using an alloy plate with hinges and locking bolt.
I believe the seat may have originated from A. Wagner, came second hand to me.
Didn't really like the look with a gap between seat and OEM tank, dimension are OK otherwise.

I'm not keen on the SFC style of seat on a road bike. It's not a particularly attractive arse end. The only reason it's that shape is to provide enough area to slap race numbers on it. I don't think it was ever designed with aesthetics in mind.

If you want a bum stop on your 3C (or SF), I reckon this style of seat looks way better.

The first time I saw it neatly done was by Frank Crince le Roy, who brought it to one of ILOC's Mallory Park Track Days.
He had extended the standard tank to get itto look right.
You can see a young Phil Todd standing behind it.

and I ended up doing just that, however without removing the hinge mounts and locking mechanism

It's just an idea in my head at the moment, I bought another frame on Saturday, a series two 1200TS frame and when I build it up it probably won't have a 1200 series two motor in it and the numbers won't match anyway so basically anything goes. I liked the green bike in the pic though.
I'm not really keen on the standard 3CL type ducktail or the later 1200TS one and I don't like the later grabrails either but I suppose they are ok for putting the bike on the stand.

That tank was made in a mould drawn from the very first Van Dijk endurance racer that they built in 1978.
Frank’s bike was mighty cool.

Grant had converted his cantilever triple POP to an SFC seat for a while. Now it's showing the standard double seat again judging by his pics posted on flickr, but he's certainly someone who knows how to do it ...

I seem to remember him telling me he had to cut the hinges off the frame.
