SFC1000 chain length

I am converting from 630 to 530 chain and am not certain what chain length (No. of links) I should order?  As the old shipyard chain was binned a while ago, I have nothing for comparison.

Cheers, Andy

my memory seems to reckon 106 links of 530.

I'll double check at lunchtime - I've a new, boxed chain in the shed. Shame it's 2 links shorter than the number written on the box. Even bigger shame that I'd had it on the shelf a year before I discovered the mistake  :(

I replaced the too-short chain with a 108 link job that was too long at which point I actually counted the one out of the 106 link box...

anyone want to buy a 104 link 530 DID chain?

I thought 180s used a 106 link 530 chain and RGSs used a 108 link 530 chain.
Now you have me wondering.  ???

Hi Andy,
Ring Jane at Sprockets Unlimited - 01386 831341 - she has the details to hand and can confirm the correct length of chain.

HTH,
Alan :)

I ahve supplied both 108 and 106 for the coversions although it makes no sense.

Andy

I believe it should be 106

The RGS swing arm is longer than the 180 swing arm, so that must account for the different number of chain links, even with similar sprocket sizes.

Thanks for the info lads its always good to learn. That would expalin the differing lengths although I tend to send longer chain are needed as it saves sending them back and forth.

for 530 chain
If standard sporockets are fitted (19/40) then....
180 type (includes 120 Jota) 106 links
120 type (not 120 Jota)  108 links
(the confusion arises because the 120 Jota was a 120 in a 180 chassis, an interim model)

in case anyone wants to know, again with standard sprockets
for 630 chain.........
180 type  88 links (includeing 120 jota)
120 type 90 links  (not inckluding 120 jota)

cam chain all triples 102 links

So that is why the 120 Jota has handling issues :D :D :D  Or were those reports just down to rogue press roadtest bikes.....?

Thanks for the replies chaps, 108 links it is.

Cheers, Andy
