SFC1000 decibels?

apologies if this has been overdone,
but before I commit (pay !)  to a track day on my SFC100-with Jota stainless silencers, IIS, otherwise standard,
any one know whether I stand a reasonable chance of passing the noise test ? Cadwell 105db,
I have read a post somewhere about this, but cant find it anywhere,
ta, Stuart

depends how the measure it. If they stand beside the track, say, 50 meters away, you might get away with it. If they test it 2/3 of WOT, standing in the pits, you won't.

My Sprint with "Jota" stainless silencers passed reasonably easily. It definitely helps if your rev counter under reads (I suspect mine does under read as I have a WITT and I don't hit the rev limiter until over 8000...)

wow, fast replies, thanks
after reading a bit more, it seems that a bit of silencing is in order,
I see that perforated tubes have been tried, without luck,
I am afraid I rely on this forum's expertise as I dont have access to much equipment to manufacture and test bits,
seems horribly easy to loose bhp when just trying to quieten things down a touch,
thanks,
Stuart

Why not just pick up a set of RGS/Corsa pipes?  A set were on eBay recently and didn't sell for ?70.00.  The pipes won't knock much off your top end and you'll easily pass the noise test.

I really didn't have a problem at Cadwell with my Jota pipes, so why should you?

There's a set of RGS mufflers on subito.it at the moment (http://www.subito.it/accessori-moto/marmitta-laverda-1000-rgs-chieti-13711475.htm), but they're a lot more expensive than ?70.00. Why are the European prices always SO much higher than UK prices?

If they want you to hold 2/3 of wot while they measure your decibels you'd better have a good rev limiter fitted or you will be spending your trackday repairing the motor. A static test uses revs whenever I have had one. If it is trackside and you are worried, keep as far from the meter as possible as you pass it. At our meetings it is usually super-monos and other singles with big pulses that get into trouble. 105 is pretty loud, we have 102 and my noisy SF2 racer passes.

Skinny - yes, your SFC1000 should pass the 105dB noise check at Cadwell.  My Jota equipped RGS clocked 103 dBA at the appropriate ACU calculated limit and RobJota confirmed his Jota was always under 104.  So Jota pipes will be OK.  Enjoy!  8)

They'll ask you to rev it to 5k and will hold their mic at 1 metre on a stick. You should find it comes in under 105,  Ive been tested there about 20 times on 2 180 triples and Brad is correct in his statement, as you would expect  8)

There's a distinct difference between 101 and 105 to the ear, for your  reference, ask them what it comes out at otherwise they wont tell you and we'd like to know for the record  :D

1 meter behind and 45? above the exhaust exit, 2/3 of power-peak rev (7.450 => close to 5.000).

The good thing in Germany though is, that due to the fact that the numbers in the papers are measured at 7 meters behind the bike, they have to add to these numbers 21dB plus 5dB tolerance. 89 in the papers plus 26 => my bike could do 115dB and still would be street-legal...  :D
