Three wise men drinking beer, one says what do the SFC's redline at? All look at each other, in silence  ???  ???  ???

No names mentioned, due to possible  :-[

Are they all differant per series, and what are they?

I take mine to 8K when riding it with anger but I'm not racing. Did I see SteveB's rev counter in the 9K region in the hands of Drmsby last year?? Only time mine see 9K is when I miss a gear :o

Willingness to rev high greatly depends on model year and exhaust fitted.
On 2/C cam equipped drum SFCs it is no use to rev beyond 7000rpm, where an Electronica will happily rev beyond 8500, or as Tim Isles and I wrote in our book 'it will rev as high as your wallet allows'..

Hi Rod,

Thanks for the link - I wasn't aware of it!  That's the Cathcart article written about my SFC Replica racebike, which has been used in edited form in various mags around the world recently.  Grant and any others in Spain - check out Moto Ciclismo Clasico who ran the article recently there.

In terms of this thread, the figure mentioned in the article is talking about our race motor, not a stock SFC.  But I think they're much the same anyhow.  Back when Ken Watson was racing it and it had no rev limiter Chris took it to bathurst for it's first outing and put on the tallest gearing he had.  When it ran 246kmh in the speed trap he worked out Ken was revving it to 9600 down Conrod straight. :-)  It also went a lot higher when the pilot missed gears (not uncommon).
It used to drop valves pretty often in those days though....

Excellent!  :D I was expecting it to be old news so it is a bonus that it isn't. I was just trying to give Chris a 'definitive' answer when I had no significant personal knowledge.

I would have been surprised if it had been much more than that. My Alpino has a 8000rpm redline and that has smaller pistons, a shorter stroke and 4 tiny valves per cylinder. I know that they aren't the only redline considerations but they are significant ones.

Cheers

I know of a Brettoni-prepared TT F2 580cc engine that was regularly taken to 12500rpm, even though Augusto expressly stated 10500rpm was the absolute limit!  Did 3 racing seasons with only general maintenance being necessary.  Then went to the US of A where it expired in a big way (at Daytona iIrc) a few years later.
