Big date? Didn't know he batted for the other team  :o

The early black shaved P08 calipers also used thinner pads because each half was slimmed down a bit, guess every little bit helps.

Brembo actually put quite some thought into the effort, if they had swapped to thinner discs back in the day it might even have been worthwhile.  Cast iron was considered "the" disc material, japs proved otherwise in the long run.  IIrc, Brembo did experiment with plasma-coated alloy discs, but failed just as everybody else did.

Can chrisk really last this long in a thread with so many references to being shaved without dropping in a lewd comment or photo?

Well, what a reputation to have!  :D
Stay tuned for the next weight saving topics:

If I shave my nuts, can I get it off easier?

I've got a cock on either side of my tank, wouldn't one be lighter?

just eat fewer pies
and its retrofitable

my learned friends above are correct, change the discs for modern 320mm floaters, get some four pistons calipers and adapters from Red and you are away, I did this a few years ago on TOG and I was very able to tell the difference in the steering due to the much lighter discs, the added braking is a boon as well, and no I havent braced the frame nor cracked it.

Even if the calipers are back to front compared to standard fitment.  :P

I shudder every time Clem puts that back to front photo up and mentions me as the supplier  :o

:D

, and you would get more of an improvement.  something to do with reducing the radius of gyration about the steering axis and moment of inertia stuff.
cheers

Handlebars are at the back of the seat for better steerage  :D

Fixed it for you.

Now the mudguard is on back to front.

I think that Chris wants a setup which is legal for classic racing. Four-pot calipers are ineligible (I think - but feel free to correct me).

I like them the wrong way round, what harm can it do? it makes servicing very easy, there is much less "lag" when it rains, the calipers are lighter than the original and the discs are A LOT lighter than the originals, they are fixed as the factory intended, and in the same place, it is good enough for the 186MPH Laverda V6 so its good enough for me, I use a fireblade master cylinder, I like the feel, and it is very powerfull and progressive, but most importantly of all it is

MORE IN YOU FACE

not changing.

Since when has the V6 had 4 pot calipers?
2 pot calipers out front are ok as the pistons are the same size.
4 pots have different diameter pistons to run with the calipers behind the fork leg for a reason.
With the larger piston contacting the disc first you will get uneven wear on the pads. This is why the smaller piston 'leads' on the disc.

If you run the bike long enough you will more than likely see the uneven pad wear.

Your choice. Just not designed to be used the way you are using them.
