Shifter drum - neutral position

This shifter drum with a deepening instead of a cutout for neutraL -
would it be a very early version or rather a very late one?
If it's an early version, were there any downsides causing them
to change it? Perhaps not always engaging properly?

It's a later drum, used in Series II triples. Gearchange is a bit smoother. Using it in a twin means also using the triple selector drum and mechanism to retain shift pattern. Using it in conjunction with twin parts will reverse the shift pattern.

Ah, that's the gizmo you were telling me about, Piet. Know exactly what you meant now - a pic tells a thou ....

I run a reverse pattern on my bikes anyway so maybe that would be a nice thing to fit. So if I retained the std selector stuff in the outer case it will work perfectly in reverse order? Or do I need the triple selector arm that picks up the pins as well?). Ands can I wait 3 or 4 months for it to arrive from Europa?! Unless someone in Oz has one they'd like to sell?

Quentin,

If you retain the 750 bits under the selector cover, you can use this shifter gate/drum/whatever to reverse the shift pattern.

Using triple bits can reduce gear lever travel considerably, just compare lengths of the lever twirling the small selector drum. There's a reason for the 750 lever being so much longer than the triples'.;)

Reckon I could find one for you in my stash somewhere, if nothing local turns up.

Thanks for the info Piet. When you say 'lever' you mean the one we push and pull with our right foot? Or the lever inside with the hooked arm attached? Must be why triples had the stubby gear lever and twins the big long s-bendy one? I can play with lever travel ratios using the rear set levers (and reverse the pattern) ... one of the huge benefits of rearsets. The only reason I'd fit the 'new improved ' Omo variety would be the smoother transition from 1st to 2nd. Can we agree that this is the most likely shift to reward us with a false neutral?

BTW - toe piece arrived with this morning's mail! Vielen Dank!

Yes, the external levers. These match the internal parts to achieve a similar ratio.

This mod is on my list for the next time the GTL is opened, bits have been laying around for ages.

Fine, I can dispose of the dispatch slip now, 8 weeks transit was long. ;)
