Having shipped two Lavs from UK to Aus (well, WA anyway) in recent years the process wasn't too difficult - merely tedious. Import permit required before shipping, needs to be cleaned thoroughly as it will get inspected at quarantine at port of entry (I got caught on one with dirt behind the number plate requiring full quarantine clean)). Then needs an Engineers inspection (not many around who will do motorcycles) to ensure it meets certain safety criteria, followed by a formal government inspection and road test (yes a government ape will ride off on it for a while). You will need a movement permit to be able to ride it to the test station. Then you can get a number plate from the licensing centre and use it. A lot easier if the machines are pre 1989 when Aus Design Regs are less stringent. Insurance is no problem. Interestingly, noting previous posts, no mention of asbestos.
