Shoei Neotec 2 any one using one - feedback ?

I have been using a Shoei flip front for a few years, it is the original one supplied to the met police, when the second version came out Shoei continued making the first, in white only, for police forces all over the planet, dont know about now though.
CLEM

I’ve used a Neotech 2 for 7-8 yrs now.
Positives are it has Shoei quality build. Steel buckles for fold down always work, quality anti scratch lexan visor which all Shoei helmets use. Positive increment style lens opening.
Negatives, it is heavier than others. It has sub par front face chin ventilation vent compared to other Shoei helmets. And when the vent is open, it actually has an in aerodynamic effect where you can hear the wind through it.
I still like it. To vent the front, to clear fogging, I pull open one side of the visor and don’t bother with the front chin vent.

I’ve had one for a few years, now a back-up for my newer HJC flip-up. The Shoei was better made but I agree perhaps not the quietest helmet I‘ve owned but certainly very comfortable to wear for long rides. Used it on the trip to Breganze in 2017. I’d certainly consider buying another but I’m also considering the LS2 complete flip over lid. Problem I find with flip ups is, when you’re off your bike to nip in somewhere with your lid still on, you keep walking into things when it’s open As you’re suddenly a lot taller!

If it's of any interest, after my entire riding life using full-face Shoei's I just got a Schuberth C5 flip-top head.
I was able to try one on for size in Germany when I was there, comparing against the Neotec3 at the same time. Both felt good on the noggin, the Schuberth had some more room around my ears which has worked out well since my moulded earplugs do not press against my ears as they did in the most recent GT-Air and I recon would have in the Neotec judging by the feel in the shop.
After riding it down to Phillip Island and back I'm still happy with the choice. The flip-front is useful when touring and will be more so when I expect I start to wear glasses before too long. Build quality and operation of the helmet all really nice. The only slight negative I noticed is that it came with a pinlock anti-fog insert which was not in proper touch with the inside of the visor, so it got condensation between it and the visor. I'll try refitting it.

I did try the Schuberth on in the shop but my head is not that shape sadly - one of the main reasons to change is that my Arais are noisy and I can’t hear the radio / sat nav instructions / music enough without using in ear ear phones which are cabled - the answer I guess is to spend much more money on Bluetooth earplugs but they need charging - the sena communication even with the discount is £332 on top of the Helmet £419 makes it quotes a purchase

I love mine, Neotec 2 that is. But it does have a couple of issues. I cannot for the life of me refit the complicated windscreen if I take it off to clean. Embarasingly I have had the local assesory shop refit it a couple of times. I have been shown but it takes a bit too much force and worries me I might break it. Another issue is the lower vent directs a strong blast of air directly at eye level, having half-open and full-open would be much better. And the last issue is it can take a hard adjusting pull laterally to cause the visor to snap down and seal as its notch is only on the right side, the new model has its sealing notch in the middle apparently, so it must snap over this notch, if it doesn't snap it will leak cold air past its closed visor causing your eyes to water, guess how I know. The last comment is there insanely expensive and the new model is even more expensive in Oz, $1200 expense so I hear. But in the end, it's easily the best helmet I have owned in the last 40 years.
BTW Steve, you probably know but here goes. The fitting pins on Pin Locks can rotate with needle nose players and work great to stop visor fogging usually but they must touch and seal completely around the circumference, the pins are cam-like, and you rotate the pins to even out the pressure on the visor. They are fantastic if that seal is set right.

I have one..after a sries of Arai. Mainly because i wanted a flip up and the sun visor is really useful.I removed tge pin lock as its another layer of plastic to look through and I think slightly restricts side vision. Generally pleased with it, though as mentioned, its pricey. If Arai did one I would go for that though...Sound , rider to rider doesnt seem loud enough..maybe thats my earpkugs though.Visors are pricey. I had an issue with rain coming down the inside of the visor..might have been because the top vent was open, will need to check...I would take a look at others before rushing to buy the new one.

..and I find the chistrap too short...does not adjust enough for me, and i did drop it once, whereupon it refused to flip open! Took back to retailer , still within warranty, about 2 years, they sent to factory, I think in Birmingham, came back in 2 days fixed. I know what Vince means about removing the visor, but there is a knack, and its not as bad as Arai😁 my alternative lid is a Premier open face, lovely visibility, but over 80 mph, no good.Nice on my XT500 and slower jaunts on Husky supermoto though...when the sun has his hat on😉

I will add that the Neotech 2 flip down shade visor , while handy and works perfectly, is NOT UVA or UVB approved. As a result of this info I’ve never used it, and use my full 100% eye coverage sunglasses.
I will also add that while the vent system for the front visor which is located at the front chin area, the top air intake is very suitable in hot weather, to the point that the odd bug will get scooped up and then makes the trek down either side and exits just by the lower ear.

I have a photochromic or whatever visor on my new helmet.
Reacts to sunlight and goes clear instantly when you go into shade or a tunnel.
It's a Shoei of some description.
Brilliant.

That’s something I didn’t know - I wonder if my Arai tinted visor is ? Will have to check

It’s something to be aware of. I work in the glass business , and deal with different types of glass, plexiglass/lexan, etc. it is incorrect to assume that just because a glazing product is dark that it offers any kind of uva/uvb protection. Fooling your eyes into thinking it’s darker, with perhaps less uv , with resultant irises opening up, is a bad situation for your eyes.

Aren't tinted visors just to look cool?

You bet ..... !!

I tend to use dark visors 90% of the time , especially during winter , when the sun is low in the sky ( searchlight in your eyes conditions ) , and glare coming off a wet road surface .......

.... and talking of visors ....... why ever did Arai get rid of the old Ad Sis system .... you could rip the old one off and replace it in seconds ....... Now it`s fiddling with levers , removing side pods , lining up holes , replacing side pods again ......... Why ?

I have ridden into a setting sun a few times using this screen, this needs to be really confirmed.
Quote from the local distributors site,

ONE-TOUCH QSV-1 SUN-SHIELD

  • QSV-1 sun-shield provides instant relief from the sun’s glare
  • Large, easy-to-use switch activates the 3D inner shield
  • QSV-1 is 100% optically correct for distortion-free view
  • Protects against 99% of the sun’s damaging UV rays
  • Sun-shield is anti-fog and scratch-resistant prepared
  • Unique to Shoei, the forehead area of the outer shell is raised slightly to accommodate the internal sun-shield. This maintains the integrity of the EPS protection liner by keeping it fully intact, so there is no compromise to safety.
